You believe what the Nats or Zim say publicly about his status?

I think if something was wrong they’d have him at the DH and not 1B today. Idk. We will see.

I honestly don't think Zimmerman is ever 100% healthy any more.   I think he probably does his best to manage his various ailments and trying to balance being prepared and healthy to start the season.

I 100% agree.

He's my least favorite Nat. Even behind Yam Gomez or whatever his name is.

You're gonna pay for that one... :(

You mean back-to-back as in one game last week and another game this week?

Zimmerman made some comment about how spring training doesn't matter and how the results mean nothing, but I looked up his career results in spring vs regular season and funny enough his spring numbers are a pretty good indication of how he's going to to for the rest of the year.

Zimm appears to be playing every other game right now.

FWIW
Zimm: .200 / .286 / .400, 0HR, 1RBIs,  5ABs

Adams: .222 / .286 / .444 , 1HR, 1RBI, 18 ABs

Adams knows his Place.  He'll play when the Face of the Franchise doesn't.

I was really disappointed in last year's decision to not play a single ST game and think it ultimately did hurt Zimmerman come regular season. (unless, of course they we were all hiding an injury he had)

Even just getting in a handful of games can help get into a rhythm and timing, I guess. Or at least I hope so. We need Zimm for 100+ games this year.

Yep.  He's not cut out to be a part time player.

Platoon!

Both Adams and Zim have huge platoon splits. Make it so, Dave Martinez!

There's no way we're paying someone 18 million for the short end of a platoon split.

Also, if anyone is baseball had thought Adams could be an everyday player, he would have gotten a better offer.

Won’t need to.  Zimm will get hurt.

When Zimm is going well he's perfectly good against RHB. When he's not going well I guess at least he still murders lefties.

Money doesn't matter between the white lines in the last year of a long contract.

And platoon =/= everyday.

Adams would be your option against RHP.

Nationals first baseman had 1040 plate appearances in 2018. 783 were against RHP. So, 75% of the time, your first baseman will face a RHP. So that means, 75% of the time, Matt Adams should be hitting. That's basically an every day first baseman.

Like I said, if anyone thought Adams was worth starting, he wouldn't be a bench bat.

Money definitely matters and so does the perception. Also, when Zimmerman is healthy, he is a MUCH better hitter than Adams.

Matt Adams has a career OPS of .825 against RHP. Last year it was .811.

Ryan Zimmerman has a career OPS of .790 against RHP. Last year after he came back healthy it was .802. In 2017 it was .895.

If Zimmerman is healthy he's not a platoon 1B.

Like last year starting in July, here are their splits. Tell me if it's worth platooning these guys considering one CRUSHES lefties and one can't hit them one bit.

Player A: .262/.327/.475
Player B: .242/.316/.494
