Pitching is pitching.  There's every bit the chance of being hurt again in a rehab game.  So what's the point of doing it in his case?  Rehab games are for when you have to really build back up your stamina or have a lot of rust to shake off and aren't ready to help.

Usually, it's to make sure you won't stink up the joint if you're still modifying your mechanics due to pain.  As important as every start is at this point, I can see Slate's point of not gambling this much on one.

He's Max Scherzer, the best pitcher in the game.  And he hasn't been out that long at all.  Who is more likely to "stink up the joint...Max or Fedde?"

This is the mentality that led to him aggravating the injury in the first place.

Again, he's just as likely to hurt himself pitching in the minors.  Is he going to throw with bubble wrap underhanded in a rehab game?  So I ask again, what's the point?

He will actually not pitch with the same effort level in the minors. He would also be limited to a pitch count.

He would have a pitch count with the Nats as well.  And what exactly is the benefit of some 75% throwing motion?  It doesn't prepare you anymore for pitching 100% in the majors.  You may actually run more risk of injury altering the way you throw.

Pitch count is the point. I see zero point in having him go out and throw with less effort. What does that accomplish? You’ll still be unsure about what will happen when he pitches at maximum effort. And max stinking up the joint is likely better than 80 percent of major league starters.

this.  I'd guess he's starting on Sunday, but will be limited to a pitch count.

Hellickson has pitched twice for the Gulf Coast Nationals as he rehabs.  4.2 IP, 1 ER, 7Ks, 1BB, 2HA

Austen Williams currently rehabbing with Harrisburg, 7 appearances, 8.1 IP, 6ER, 3BB, 12Ks, 12HA.  4 of those runs and 4 hits came in one of his appearances.  Otherwise he's been solid.

It would be insane not to be super careful with Max. You have to think not just about this year but his career going forward.

Neither needs to come back until September. I mean, at this point, with Ross pitching the way he is, do I even want Hellickson back?

Ross has been Boss lately. You gotta go with the hot hand. To take him out of the rotation at this point would be silly. He may have found his stride after all.

Ross is so lucky his name rhymes with Boss.  What if his name had been Burd or Whithead?

Who goes when Zimmerman is ready?  AssCab?  Zimm's return should be delayed until rosters expand.

The choices are Cabrera, Parra, Kendrick or go with one fewer arm in the bullpen. Zimmerman should just go the freak away! >:(

Scherzer back Thursday per Zuck (assuming he’s ok to tomorrow).  No issues after his bullpen session.
