Doubt either one is the case.  Difo won't be optioned because he and Turner are the only 2 guys who can play SS, plus he's the only LH bench bat on days Adams plays.   Kendrick stays because he'll be the only RH bench bat besides whichever catcher is sitting who can actually hit.  They now have enough relievers with options to play shuttle with the last couple bullpen spots rather than carrying 8 relievers: Doolittle, Rosenthal, Solis, Grace and Miller would be the only ones who couldn't be optioned, and a couple of those could probably get through being DFAed.

Don't see why he'd be out of options.  He wasn't added to the Marlins' 40-man until he came up in 2015,  then spent enough time in the minors in the beginning 2016 to burn an option, but he hasn't been down since aside from a rehab stint in 2017.   He's not anywhere close to 5 years of service time, so he should have 2 option years left.

If only it were a shuttle and not a cross country flight.

I attended several of their ballgames at Aloha Stadium when the Islanders were a Pirates affiliate.  Pretty cool place...as big as it is, the grandstands are on rollers and can be reconfigured for baseball or football/soccer...

The biggest crowd of the year is generally the high school football championship game...

I attended an Islanders game there.  As I recall there were no long lines at the rest rooms. I also attended an Islanders game when they moved to the UH stadium.

I think the average attendance was about 2,500...in a 50,000 seat stadium...

They better not use that as an excuse not to sign Harper by billing him as a power hitting replacement. Otherwise, there will be no Championship!!!!!111111!!!!!

Altuve hit that many home runs in 4 seasons and he like half that size.

One thing that worried me about him was discussed on MLB radio, he is a notorious 2nd half hitter who goes on a major power binge right after the allstar break, that didnt happen last year. But his slugging pct late is like 200 points higher over most of his career so dont be surprised if he hits like crap for 2 months.

Dozier isn't that much older than Murphy was when Kevin Long worked his magic. Wonder what kind of impact he'll have here.

Getting 700 plate appearances and hitting the ball hard consistently, with most of it in the air helps.  His fly ball rate is usually in the mid-40s (league average is around 35%).  He takes big cuts.  Physically, 5'11" 200 isn't that small.  Khris Davis is about that size, and he's hit 40 3 years in a row, in Oakland no less.

Different era but Hank Aaron (the greatest HR hitter of all time IMO) was 6' about 200 lbs.

I don't think I saw anywhere else that he said he was playing with a knee injury last year.

Hmm, it doesn't say he's done anything to fix it though?

Could Hank have been on steroids ?

Starting in the 1950s?  Highly unlikely.  Steroids didn't even become a big enough problem to get banned by the IOC until the late '60s, and that was because of sports like weightlifting.  There's never been an account of steroid use in baseball before the 1970s.

Look, the steroids debate is a bit silly with respect to guys like Aaron, even independent of the timeline.  The purpose of anabolic steroids is to build muscle mass.  They don't suddenly give whatever muscle you have some superhuman strength that it didn't possess before.  A 5'11" 200 pound dude who got that size naturally versus a dude who got there on roids will be equivalently strong (assuming one dude isn't fatter than the other).

While there were some smaller guys who used roids to get big enough to hit for any power at all (Brian Roberts, for example), the bulk of dudes who were hitting homers while on steroids are guys who had the classic roided-out look: Bonds, McGwire, Sosa, Palmeiro, even lesser lights like Brad Fullmer and Jay Gibbons.  These are guys for whom the reasons for hitting dingers were obvious - they just got huge.   They don't have the same look that a lot of the guys who hit lots of homers despite being smaller have in their swings:  disproportionately large forearms, pretty lean through the middle, lots of wrist and really quick hips in the swings.   Dozier is pretty much all of that, Aaron is almost the archetype of all of them.

No, that's the guy that "broke" his record.

Definitely he could have been. His teammate Tom House said that steroids were rampant in the early 70's and two of his teammates went on to manage teams with notorious steroid users (Davey Johnson and Dusty Baker). Aaron had some of his best years from 35-40. All circumstantial, but enough smoke to say that it is impossible.
