Was looking forward to feeling some Fall weather in DC this weekend...

We will bask in the closeness of WNFF Saturday whilst showing our faith in the Almighty for blessing this team onward this year (despite Dave).  :rites:

No wonder we argue.  But the weather in DC this weekend looks to be 10-15 degrees higher than normal

Seriously it’s been about 21 days so far and only two rainy days. Probably another two coming. I have never seen so many days with not a cloud in the sky. At least six per my unofficial count.

How about the guy in Texas who was struck by lightning and survived?

WaPo Capital Weather Gang has good write up with possible explanation for what happened.

PG&E is shutting off power to around 800,000 people in the SF area due to extreme threat of wildfires from a high wind event.

They spend years paying high dividends instead of maintaining their infrastructure and now their solution is brownouts :lmao:

I think the bigger issue is that they are trying to avoid further lawsuits after what happened last year.  They are still in bankruptcy as a result of lawsuits filed against them after the Camp Fire.  More on topic though, the fall dry wind events appear to be increasing due to global warming.  In this particular event, they are predicting 40-70 MPH winds with very low humidity in areas that are already dry.

The fires are an issue because of ill maintained equipment

I went for a bike ride along 4 mile run today.  I was amazed at the amount of algae I saw between Mt Vernon Ave and Shirlington.  I've seen low water there, but never enough so it was still enough for algae scum. This is way above the outfall from the Arlington POTW and is not a tidal stretch.

I'm currently flying to SF and we're being routed way north.  From Dulles we're heading up to Minnesota, then across to Oregon, before approaching CA from the North.  Seems the culprit is a massive high pressure area over the Sierra Nevada's that creating a big windstorm.  They call it the Diablo Winds, and it bringing winds of up to 80 MPH from the Sierra Nevada mountains west toward Oakland.  They saying it's the worst fire conditions in a generation, and there is already a big fire in Sonoma.   180,000 people are currently under evacuation orders.

Crazy weather still here in the San Fran area, winds last night were around 80 MPH in some parts north of the city and the Kincade Fire is only about 15% contained. Down around LA winds are 55-77 MPH with humidity levels in the single digits.  Many areas are still without power as utilities shut down lines to prevent new fires starting from blowing tree limbs making contact with live power lines.

Got a 5 PM flight out of Boston on Tuesday.  This storm is supposed to depart Tuesday AM after a second burst of snow. My big worry is that the incoming flight gets messed up and somehow they either cancel the 5 PM or substantially delay it.
