Here's another Boston Landmark:

Despite ensuing successes, setbacks on the John Hancock Tower commission in Boston (1967 to 1976) almost sank Mr. Pei’s firm.

We used to call it the "World's Tallest Plywood Structure" because they would replace the broken windows with plywood boards.  Interesting story behind the problem with the design.  The building is a narrow near parallelogram (two pairs of parallel sides that are not right angles).  The wind would twist the building a bit and crack the windows, then they would pop out.  Even more interesting, as part of the review of the structure, they found it was more vulnerable to toppling in a major disaster over its narrow sides than the broader ones.  I forget if the fix was to go to or from single panes.

I remember when the windows would blow out.    I think it was '87 when I went to the top for the first time.    Loved it.   I'm a sucker for tall buildings.     When I was in the 4th grade, I could tell you the city by looking at a picture of its skyline.    Of course, I could name all the cars too.    :)       OT      I gotta try the view platform in Arlington.

The Pru has the better restaurant. The Top of the Hub.  My folks would take me there if I had a good report card.

The observation deck at the Hancock is better because it has about 10 extra floors.

I saw the video.    He looked rough.    At least he didn't puke on the mayor like GHWB did on the Japanese PM.
