I grew up on Long Island but was a bit too young for when Twisted Sister was playing at Hammerheads and was the top local band.  I was more in the Zebra, Good Rats era.

I walked over to Giant to pick up some supplies.    I listened to Grant and Danny on the way over and most of the way back.    They talked about pre-season football in August for the first 45 minutes or so.     They even talked about the Ravens before gettin' to the Nats, etc.    I couldn't take it any more so I turned the dial to 100.3.     They were playing "Comfortably Numb".     Hmm, I wonder what 106.7 is gabbing about now?

Israel Kamakawiwoʻole's "Under the Rainbow" came on in a crowded loud restaurant, and everyone went silent except for a bit of snuffling at the back end.  One of those "Whoah that was weird" moments.

Such a beautiful song. When we went to Hawaii on our honeymoon in 97 it was being played everywhere.

he was from NYC so he got a lot of airplay when I was growing up on Long Island.  He wasn't Billy Joel by any means, but he had about half a dozen songs that most people know the words to by heart.

"take me home tonight" is on the short list of songs where the backup singer did a better job than the lead.  I'd add Paradise by the Dashboard Lights to that list.  Others?  Both mick and his backup are great on Gimme Shelter, so that's not one.  And I don't mean any fleetwood mac song that has Christie McVie singing backup.  That's too easy.

There are a couple of songs off of GnR's "Spaghetti Incident" where the backup overshadows Axl.  Particularly "Ain't it fun" (Michael Monroe from Hanoi Rocks).

well, as much as I like Knopfler, Sting has the only line that folks remember.

Any Elvin Bishop fans?  His biggest song, Fooled Around and Fell in Love, Mickey Thomas (his back up at the time) sings it.

For those of you who remember the band "Everything" that formed out of JMU in the very early 1990's, their entire catalogue is now on Spotify and iTunes.

Folks might remember "Hootch", their one and only hit, but they had a lot of great songs and were a staple of the D.C. and VA bar scene for most of the 90s.  Several of the original members, including the lead singer, now play occasional shows as "Almost Everything"
