What are you about to listen to in 2019
« Topic Start: December 30, 2018, 08:25:15 PM »
Wife and I are going to do the music thing again this year in lieu of giving each other presents this Christmas.

Try to do 1 live music event per month (flexible interpretation of this loose guideline).  Got January and Feb lined up - January the Smithereens at the State Theater.

Yep, that's all still true - including that the Smithereens are again scheduled for January at the State.

Oh no :( https://patdinizio.net/3808/pat-dinizio-passes-away/

But no, Pat has not returned from the grave.

Quote
The Smithereens were an anomaly in the American college rock scene of the late '80s. Lead singer/songwriter/guitarist Pat DiNizio stood out not only with his strange beatnik goatee, but also because his catchy hooks were haunting, not punchy, and because his lyrics were morose. As time wore on, the group became more straightforward, turning into an excellent bar band, one that attacked pop songs with the weight of AC/DC.

The Smithereens return to the State for the first time since Pat DiNizio's untimely death on December 12, 2017. The iconic band has brought on renowned vocalist of the Gin Blossoms, Robin Wilson. Robin and the band will take fans through the unforgettable sound and energy of THE SMITHEREENS.

Now if we could just have an NRBQ reunion.

BTW, the Gin Blossoms are also playing the State soon.

Well, it's a 2019 concert, I haven't started listening to them yet.     8)

And I think you failed to read the thread title carefully.

Tommy, is this solely about music, or can I include listening to the moans and groans of my early 20's online gf's ?  8)

My wife gave me the 2-CD Springsteen on Broadway yesterday as a belated Christmas present because it arrived after we left for Florida. Haven't gotten to play it yet because I want to play it straight through if possible.

To which we do not subscribe, but thanks all the same. Should have watched it while we were in Florida because our relatives do subscribe. We saw Bird Box and it was some bizarre stuff.

ME:  "Mrs. VaRK and I are going to see Three Dog Night on Thursday at the Carpenter Theater."

40 SOMETHING HE:  "That's The Beatles, right?"

ME:  "No, that would be A HARD DAY'S NIGHT."

My daughters both know of them.  My son-in-law would have thought we were going away for a long weekend...

No...I think the most famous of the lead singers died a few years back.

A truly wonderful show by a bunch of septuagenarian hippies (one of the fellas is 76).  I am not a big 3DN fan, but these cats put on quite a non-stop 90 minute show.

This was my favorite cut, especially since they didn't play "Try A Little Tenderness"

Been on a bluegrass kick recently and came across this gem. Bluegrass and baseball, how can you beat that?

Skipped the SOTU to instead watch the U2 concert from Paris after the terrorist attack a few years ago at the Eagles of Death Metal concert. Incredible performance.

Their 2002 Super Bowl after 9/11 was one of the two best performances, along with Prince in the rain.

Yeah, I watched a short documentary last night as well on Youtube covering the 2002 halftime show. U2 only played three songs: Beautiful Day, MLK, and Where the Streets Have No Name.  Kurt Warner talked about walking out to catch the end of the the final song during which they had a large screen projecting the names of those who died on 9/11, and how it moved him.  It was 17 years ago, and also featured the Patriots, with Tom Brady, beating the Rams.  Bono noted that they play Where the Streets Have No Name whenever they need to bring G-d into a room.

The 2015 Paris concert is freely available on Youtube.  The performance of "One" at the end is hauntingly beautiful.

Not bluegrass, but try the Turnpike Troubadors. Red dirt country. Awesome.
