No thanks. He and Hellickson are basically the same. Tanner costs 10 million. Hellickson costs 1.3 million.

Sherzer costs $30MM...should have unloaded him...

As I remember it, it was for $210M, 14 years @ $15M per, 7 years playing and 7 years in retirement.

But the Lerners have an extra 15 million every year in cash to pay any tax. And so would any other owner.

Yeah, taxes are the cost of doing business and I could care less. I know it gets passed onto the consumer but so be it. Play ball.

Rotation becomes a weakness if both Stras and Scherzer are in decline.  Conceivably, you could move Scherzer to a contender that has no worries about the comp balance tax for a number of prospects if you agreed to pick up the deferrals for the last 3 years of his contract; it'd free up a lot of room under the lux tax threshold, but it probably means Rendon walks.  Strasburg may be unmoveable given his opt out and how he's looked the past year plus.

the guy has 2 mediocre starts and one bad one after a season with a 2.53 ERA, the most innings pitched and the most strikeouts in baseball and yall start talking about trading him? Are you guys being serious right now?

He still leads the league in strikeouts and isnt walking people. Batters have a BABIP of .395 against him this season. That will drop significantly. Max is fine.

edit: So far this season his GB% is 45.2% after being closer to 35% for most of his career. So a lot of seeing eye groundballs. This is noise and will normalize, I dont think Max is gonna be an issue this year

Tbh, I think it's still a sell-high, get a boatload time if we did move him. As sph points out, he's coming off a great year and hisBABIP is high. But, if the grounders are the rule now, he may be changing and showing age. I have not looked at his contact rates, but if it's more than babip, and you want a quick restock, I'd listen to Houston or whatever.

No. They're not.  The only way Scherzer gets traded is if there is a conscious management decision to "blow it up".  And that's about four months premature.

More like 12 months too late

So, assuming Hellickson is healthy, how many more off starts does he get before Crowe or Fedde or Ross gets a shot?

Personally, given the bullpen's performance up to yesterday and given how Fedde looked over multiple innings, I want Crowe to get the next shot at starting and both Ross and Fedde as multi-inning guys.  This would let them squeeze out Grace, even though he's a lefty.  Sipp had a good enough one yesterday.

Eh, we've seen this before with Fedde.

He needs to stay in the bullpen for the foreseeable future.

There's nothing to indicate he would be a good reliever. The arguement for Ross is that he was a two pitch guy and that was really good the first time though the order. Ross also throws strikes.

So far, Fedde hasnt been consistent. He struggles with control. You want a reliever who is either going to have a ton of strikeouts or come in pumping strikes. So far, Fedde is neither (Sunday not withstanding).

Whoever that was on the mound yesterday can pitch wherever he wants.

Fielding Independent pitching. When the circus comes to town - and stays -  you need a fair way to judge pitching performance.
