Sure, if you assume that taking a 36-year-old middle infielder whose remaining value is power and defense, putting him in Petco for his age 37 and 38 seasons, and expecting 4 WAR over those seasons is a safe bet. (I think it's actually 8 million total - 4m per - which is a much better deal. I'm just skeptical he'll provide much value at all, but the plan might be to write it off after 1 year if the Padres prospects develop.)
4 million per is even better. You're basically paying for good defense and not striking out.
