Every state has licensed their sports books through either the existing casino infrastructure, or the state lottery, as D.C. is proposing. Councilmember Jack Evans, a Democrat who represents Ward 2, who introduced the bill, said Wednesday that he foresees five major venues — Nationals Park, Audi Field, the Entertainment and Sports Arena, Capital One Arena and the Convention Center — as the initial brick-and-mortar establishments, with hotels, bars, restaurants and other local operators able to potentially join them.
Works for me. I'm ready to bet the under when Max is pitching.
Now I'll never have to go to Charles Town, WV again
Right, so you bet the under, Max is throwing a great game and the Nats are up 6-0, Martinez is comfortable with the lead and calls out the dregs of the bullpen, putting your cash at risk. Now you're sitting behind the dugout barking at the manager about a game that he's about to win. Sounds great to me but I can see the players and coaches not being happy about it.
Does this exist already at other ballparks ? Baseball has always been concerned about betting since the BlackSox Scandal of 1919. Isn't betting why Pete Rose isn't in Cooperstown ?
For nostalgia sake, I'm hoping the first sports book at a baseball park is either where the White Sox play or Cincinatti. You would think that, if MLB has any control over the venue (and they may not since the city paid for it), they would say you can bet on anything except pro baseball. I think the case that went to the supreme court allowed gambling on sports outside Vegas, but I did not think it mandated the states to allow it unconditionally in all venues.
With mobile betting it could be that the genie is out of the bottle so the Nats might as well cash in.
Who is going to pay the house more to bet through a team venue?
Same people who head into the ballpark an hour before the game to drink over priced beer instead of pre-gaming outside.
You can’t take beer into the park, you can take a phone into the park
You don't need to enter the park early to drink but a lot of people do.[...]]
With so many discrete plays, there's an unlimited amount of possible bets. 1st pitch strikes, batting around the order, GIDPs, etc... Season, game, inning, PA . . .
I'll take Zimm GIDP's for $500.00 Alex...
Can we bet on Carp miss callin' a fly ball?
