Last year and the last few were a mess. But in 2012 he was a top pitcher. And they won the first game he pitched. And as you said the bullpen messed up also in game five.

Career ERA is 3.69. Not bad.

And his career postseason ERA is 4.78.  Bad.

(Also, he was very good in the 2017 regular season - 2.96 - which is why he got yet another chance in the postseason, where he racked up a 6.75.)

You said things go better when he doesn’t pitch. So you implied it at least. Really depends who the replacement is. Looked it up. Zero earned runs in the game four start in 2014!!

Gio tends to be the scapegoat for all the bad things. Good luck to him in the NLCS.

Pardon me for not wanting to give a huge amount of credit to a starter who goes 4 innings in a game his team ends up losing.

And it's only fair to say things go better when he doesn't pitch: he's now been on 5 playoff teams, and the only series any of them won was the series he didn't pitch in.  Anyone can dispute Gio's effect on any of this, but that statement is beyond dispute.

Well if they didn’t make errors they could have won that game 4. I can’t blame him for crapping in game five last year. That’s on Old Rusty for putting him out there when he clearly couldn’t handle the pressure.

And that equates to saying that he was the ONLY reason the team lost? :lmao: You sound like the members of the Kavanaugh human centipede that post in Uncensored. And yes, he didn't pitch in this year's NLDS and the team advanced so things go better when he doesn't pitch.

The error was the reason the 2 runs he yielded in those 4 innings were ruled unearned. And BTW, it was his error on a throw to 2B so you can't even blame it on the fielders. And then with the bases loaded he walked in a run. :?

Was hoping you wouldn’t pick up on who made the error.  wait and see. He is going to pitch well in the NLCS.

I wouldn't be surprised if the Brewers told Gio to just give everything you've got for 4 innings and then they'll get him out of there.

I bet he implodes and doesn't last more than three innings.

I hope he has a historically bad start.  More earned runs than outs would please me.

way to go, Gio (though, at least HE is in the playoffs, not that HE had anything to do with it)

2 innings. Brewers didn't trust him for more. Smart move. Now, go Brewers.

Hang on a sec. You can pull Gio before the 5th inning?

It's called bullpenning and all the cool teams are doing it.

Not recommended for the Nats, however.

Have the Nats ever had a pen that good?

No. But at least on paper they had much better starting rotations than this Brewers team. Of course they became paper tigers.

I really hope it doesn't take over.  I enjoy watching starters go deep into games, and caring who the starting pitcher is that day, etc.   It would take a lot away from the game if everyone goes to that model.  The results seem mixed so far, thankfully.

I think it will- the numbers on pitchers facing batters for a third time are pretty clear cut

Brewers remove Gio from their playoff roster due to a high ankle sprain, he's now ineligible to pitch in the WS should Milwaukee advance.
