At this point he might as well take a year off to go backpacking in Nepal and hope, that when he comes back the Nats finished 3rd in the division and desperately want him back to re-live the glory years.

The Bryce Harper Sweepstakes will soon come to an end.

Harper has reportedly made his division and is ready to celebrate a signing, according to 106.7 The Fan's Chris Russell.

"Maybe I took a little bit of a leap of faith here based on some indications I got from a real good source," Russell told 94WIP in Philadelphia that Harper has made a decision which could be announced Friday.

According to Russell, "I'm led to believe by some people that I've talked to that are close to the situation... that Bryce was in mood to celebrate yesterday."

"Now, the source said, 'I believe it's done.' But I don't have concrete, 100 percent proof for you guys. I wish I did, otherwise I would have it and I would be running around with it. But I don't have that, so I want to caution everybody in Philadelphia. But that's what I was lead to believe, that this thing is now decided," Russell said.

However, the details in the contract still need to be ironed out.

"Now, what comes then is hammering out a contract," Russell said. "And if we were are to believe the report that the Philadelphia Phillies had not even extended a formal offer — and I assume that to be a termed, written agreement, that type of thing, which I find hard to believe — then there might be more leg work to this. And therefore, hey the decision may be done, but the contract still has to be ironed out. So it could take a couple more days even if the decision is done, which, again, I was lead to believe that the decision is done."

Russell said Harper had a meeting with his agent Scott Boras this week to make the decision.

"Bryce and his representatives: Boras, his people, his wife, Kayla, they've been meeting since Monday morning in Vegas. The all convened Monday morning to make a decision. And Bryce originally wanted this done, when it took this long, by Valentine's Day. Obviously, the contract has not been announced, signed, or whatever."

"I was, again, led to believe that there was some stuff going on yesterday in Las Vegas that indicated to me and my source that Bryce Harper was done with this decision," Russell said. "But it could still take a couple of days to get everything ironed out."

Saying a decision is coming really soon is just a big duh to try and later say "look, I was right." ST has started. Of course a decision is very likely coming soon.

No way anything leaks out over a Friday afternoon, and probably not over the weekend. My uneducated guess would be early next week. Monday is President's Day. Maybe a DC theme haha.

Not sure if he is coming back to DC but just cant see him in Philly. Would the Phillies be willing to un retire number 34 and give it to him? I could see that pissing off alot of people and I don't see Bryce and his ego being willing to change numbers. I know a number is a silly thing to worry about when millions of dollars are at stake but numbers are big deals to athletes right???

There's nothing that makes you feel super confident he's coming back to DC, but then again, no other team seems to just make perfect sense either. He supposedly doesn't want to play in Philly. Maybe that's not true, but I can't see the appeal of them over returning to DC unless they just offer a much better deal. But would Lerner let his division rival steal his star player? Unless they offer something totally absurd, I think he'd make a strong counter. The Giants are awful and also awful for lefty power hitters, and they also are only offering a shorter-term deal, which Harper/Boras are said not to be interested in. The Padres? Please. Yankees? OF is full. Dodgers? Out now that they signed Pollack. Cubs? They have said explicity it's not happening.

So...my guess is DC by default. Any information in the media is probably misinformation, and the fact that DC is seen as such a long shot makes me think they just might actually be the choice.
