Instead of losing Harper for nothing?? At the very least we could have flipped Puig for s decent player.

We messed up big time by not trading him at the deadline.

We get a draft pick

If the Dodgers could have flipped Puig for a decent player, they would have

You understand how it works. Puig has some value. A draft pick between the 4th and 5th rounds doesn’t have much. Puig will cost 6 million each of the next two years. You aren’t going to get a free agent who can produce like him for that price.

I'm not sure Puig > Eaton.  Again, if we keep Harper, Eaton goes.

So you trade him if you don’t want to trade Eaton. You will get better than a fourth round pick that will probably never play in DC.

Their lineup was stacked??

Regardless where he was batting, adding Puig for Harper instead of losing him for nothing would have been the smart decision.

We should do the same with Rendon too. If we can't re-sign him why let him leave and get nothing in return?

I'd rather have Puig at 6 million, Eaton and wherever else we can get from the remaining 24 million we dont have to spend on Harper.

Simply put we should have traded him. The smart move, like I've been saying for a year was to trade him last offseason for a haul, sign JD Martinez and we would have been much better off. Then when Zimm leaves after this season we would have JD smashing 40 Homers and driving in 120 at 1B.

Who was giving up a haul for few month rental?

I've been checked out on this offseason, but that better be the Nationals best offer for Bryce Harper. Not a dollar more. He is really damn good, not great, and that is great money.

For a year of Harper? Half a season got the Orioles some decent prospects.

Someone, somewhere would have given up something substantial.

But trading Harper for Puig is dumb. Puig is a headcase and has regressed every year he's been in MLB. No one was going to give up anything substantial for him, particularly after watching him for two months on a floundering team.

I would hate to see Bryce wind up in Philly of all places, but they have 2 things he desires........(1) money and (2) a ballpark that he mashes in.  I haven't looked it up but I'm sure he has great career numbers at CBP.

Hmmm.  That's pretty much him I suppose.  If he comes back as a Phillie, he is a villian.  Anybody but Philly, Atlanta, and NYM, I could stomach.

if someone is going to sign him to an Albatros of a contact, I have no issue with it being Philly.  13 years / $400-500 million?  Pass.

Just don’t see him getting that long a contract if he also has player opt outs in it. Don’t see why a team would go that long. We shall see.

The Athletic is reporting that the Nats had a deal in place to trade Harper to Houston for three prospects, but that Nats ownership vetoed it.  The haul would have included starter J.B. Bukauskas (#76 rated prospect in baseball by BA), catcher Garrett Stubbs and one more prospect.

Brilliant. So the Lerners need to meddle and now we will lose Harper and get nothing in return.

And if that was the haul at the deadline imagine what we would have got for him last offseason. And some guys on here were saying we would get nothing.

Wait til we lose Rendon to the Astros.    Bet he can't wait to go home.
