Meh, that offer would always be there, why take the offer when you can at least see what else is out there.

Rendon would be top priority for me. I can't sign Harper and not have enough left for Anthony. Hopefully they are thinking like this.

I had a gut feeling that being a Nat was more important than the biggest deal ever. I guess I was wrong.

He made it this close to free agency, he’s not signing an extension now without hearing other offers

It confirms that the absolute floor for Harper is over 30 million per year.

Once you're into that type of guaranteed money, a couple million extra a year doesn't even mean anything. It's an ego thing at this point t. Too bad.

If the Nats were serious about keeping him, they would have locked him up long ago.

Sources: Nationals made Bryce Harper ‘aggressive offer' last month, did not reach agreement

If I was Harper that would seal the deal for me to leave. Why wait until the last day of the season. It’s an insult.

they obviously made offers before that. this was clearly leaked by the nationals side to say "hey we gave him a big contract and he said no, we tried"

Not obvious to me. They should have leaked that also. If there were previous offers and this one was aggressive then the others must have been low balls.

Be interesting if, say, the next best offer to the Nats $30M, is something a couple million less. Then, it's the Nats who are red-faced.

Boras won't let him take less. That's not where he's at in his career. That's something Harper does in his early to mid 30s to win a championship

It’s not Boras signing the deal. Part of the reason players hire Boras is to not be the bad guy, but accepting or not accepting the deal is always a player’s choice

11 years, $330MM let's him top Giancarlo in total dollars, so I don't think Boras will let him consider less.  Also, the Nats offer purportedly did not include opt-outs, which is another guaranteed fail.

I do not want to sign him for that kind of money.  I'm not sure I'd sign him to 7 years, $210MM.

I agree. I think last season set off too many concerns to sign him to that money. That he came into season wanting to get a personal achievement and refused to change for half a year despite coaches' advice and failing results, should be more than enough to pass. I'm done. 30+ million a year should buy me the common sense enough to realize that trying to hit 60 home runs is costing your team games before the ASB. Take that money, give half of it to Rendon, and use the rest to get a quality starting pitcher.

I think you could get Rendon for 6 years, $132MM ($22MM AAV). That's bigger than JD Martinez's contract.

Sounds good to me. I think what Donaldson gets will set the market for Rendon.

Isn't Donaldson expected to get a smaller contract because of injury concerns?

106.7 is leadin' off the G & D show with the Nats/Harper.

Apparently we offered 10/$300 with no opt-outs. That's a good offer and I think Boras knows he can come back to that as a base if he doesn't like what teams are offering.

That said, not sure I want him at that price.

How and why would that be usual? They talk a lot of baseball. Probably the biggest reason I like them.

I could see fewer years, but I expect his AAV to be substantial and a good baseline for Rendon.  I also think Machado's contract will factor in.

It was fair (not Bud Black "insulting").    They'll reject it.    Everybody moves on.

He will get more. The only question is if he wants to come back to the Nats for a counter offer.

To me, our side leaking all this out tells me they don't plan on offering more and are going to move on. Enjoy the...Chicago White Sox, Bryce.

St. Louis seems to be gaining steam as a rumor, and honestly, good luck with that Bryce. Congrats on being a mercenary on a team that puts scrappy middle infielders on a higher pedestal than you.
