Depends on how many teams are willing to undercut the idea. But I doubt Arizona is thinking they will get top prospects while not eating any salary.

We seem willing to give someone 30 million this year. Let it be pitching.
Greinke is 35. He will hit the wall soon. Pass.

And you are done with his contract after 3.

If you can get Corbin or keuchel for only 3 years then ok. But that seems unlikely.

Corbin is 29. And Keuchel is 30. So if you give them five year contracts at the end they will still be younger or as young as Greinke is now. Also you don’t have to give up anyone.

+1.  There's nothing in your post I can argue with.  If you want to free more cash, then we can decline arb on Roark and this suddenly becomes Greinke for Roark for $20MM and change.  Pick up one of the lower end FAs that Slate listed for #4, and figure Ross / Fedde / Rodriguez / Crowe / Romero covers your 5th spot.  One of those guys goes in a Grienke deal, but the other 4 are suitable.

Greinke has a better record of consistency. He loses some velocity, his offspeed is still very good. And your done with him after 3.

Regardless who, pitching will be a better buy than Harper is my point.

I think Keimboom is enough to get them to eat 10 million a year

I wouldn’t do it unless that first name was Spencer lol.

I ain’t selling my top guys in 2019. Maybe in 2018.

If I can get Rendon long term, I’m Rendon, Turner, and Kieboom in my infield.

Corbin scares me. Had his best year in a contract year. Keuchel is declining. I'd be wary of giving him a 5 year deal.

Greinke is a legit ace and inning eater. A trio of Max/Stras/Greinke would be amazing.

For Carter, they'd have to eat the whole thing.

Bryce's strikeout percent during this past year was 169/550, which is over 30%

Giancarlo Stanton career K%: 28%
Bryce Harper: 21%

Isn’t it BB divided by plate appearances? He had 695 of those.

Huh ?  SO percent doesn't use a BB stat.  I thought it was SO divided by official AB

actually, I think that FG divides K/PA, but other sites use K/AB, which excludes sacs and BBs.

Whatever the formula, BH has a lot of holes in that swing and still doesn't hit breaking balls and slow stuff very well.

Dude can't hit a leftie offspeed pitch if his life depended on it.
