I'm not entirely against sitting tight with Difo and Kendrick and seeing how the market shapes up at 2B. There are always players out there. I want an Adam Kennedy clone. Decent hitter who can hit in any spot, decent defender, decent base runner, just someone who can hold down the spot until we get a better player

This has been a good offseason. I would have liked to see an outfield bat, but I am guessing they look at Matt Adams as a rotation player out there.

Lowrie on a 2 year deal would be option A for me, and Marvelous Marwin Gonzalez would be option A'.  I don't think we have the budget for either, especially if we also are looking for a reliever or 5th starter.  After Jed and Marwin, I'd be happy with Dozier at a discount, or else the last man standing on a 1 year pillow contract.  Has Schoop signed?

Marwin Gonzales would be perfect.  I don't think we start the season with Difo or Kendrick at 2B.

Lowrie is going to be 35 next season. That's putting an awful lot of stock in someone who is prime for a decline.

well, I'm not looking for him to be an all star or even a 150 game player.  Just a transition to Garcia and / or Kieboom.

Garcia is likely 3 years away, and honestly,  is closer to being a utility infielder than an every day starter.

Keiboom is closer, but is probably slated for third, unless they get an extension done. Or the trade block.

I feel like Lowrie is the same bet as Kendrick at this point.

Yup, especially since Rizzo has already said Kieboom is going to play some occasional 2B next year in the minors.

He said the same thing about Rendon. Keiboom is Rendon's replacement.

I just saw something that I found pretty amazing. Alfonso Soriano's 40 - 40 in 2006 was the last time it's been done in baseball.  He's also the only non-juicer (Bonds and Canseco are the other 2).

Kemp was a homer away from it in 2011, but no one has even come close since.

I still really want to see us sign Dozier to a 1-year deal.

IF we do sign Harper, things get really interesting for Rizzo.  Eaton would seem to be the guy you have to move.  For starters, that takes 8.4 million off the books since signing Harper would shoot us past the luxury tax mark.  With his reasonable price tag and good performance when on the field, I think despite his injuries that there would be a decent market for him that could help us cover another area or are(s) such as SP depth and bullpen depth.

Eaton for a LH bullpen arm or a serviceable 2B would make a lot of sense.

If we move Eaton I'd look for either a lefty bullpen guy or 2 SP prospects who are close to MLB ready even if their ceilings aren't very high. The NYY moved Justin Wilson for Chad Green and Luis Cessa a couple years ago because they had no SP prospects in AAA. We desperately need some there.

Or, we could swoop in and sign Machado, moving Trea to 2B. OF could stay as is. I'd rather have Manny than Bryce.

Earlier in the offseason, the Nationals missed out on Ian Kinsler, as he reportedly rejected their one-year, $5-million offer in favor of the two-year, $8-million contract he signed with the San Diego Padres.

I'd rather have Dozier than Kinsler anyway.  Reminds me of how we lucked out when Brandon Phillips used his no trade clause to void our deal for him, then we signed Murphy I believe on Christmas Eve.

If Dozier rebounds anywhere near where he was for several years prior to 2018, then we'll have a steal.  If not, then it's a short-term commitment for not that much money and we have Kieboom waiting in the wings and Difo/Kendrick in-house.

The advanced metrics for Dozier last year aren't that bad.  He bad a terrible BABIP, but still drew walks at a good clip and still hit for power.  His floor is still better than Difo's ceiling.  He won a gold glove in 2017, and although he's not a defensive wiz, he's better than Murphy there.

Dreaming a little, but let's say we re-sign Harper and add Dozier.  Talk about a formidable lineup.  Very unlikely that everybody stays healthy and is in peak form, but wow...

SS Turner
3B Rendon
RF Harper
LF Soto
1B Zimmerman
2B Dozier
CF Robles
C Gomes

Bench: Adams, Kendrick, Suzuki, Taylor, Difo

If we get a second baseman, do we need both Kendrick and Difo? Does Difo have options left?
