An awesome offseason for the Nats would really be (IMO):

Sign Patrick Corbin - 5 years, 100M
Sign Yasmani Grandal - 4 years, 48M
Sign Greg Holland - 3 years, 30M
Trade a package of Taylor, Luis Garcia, and Jefry Rodriguez for Jean Segura

Segura moves to 2B, Grandal is the starting catcher, Corbin slots in behind Strasburg, Holland rounds out the pen in 8th/7th innings.

I'm thinking there's a bidding war coming up for Corbin.  don't you think the NYY go hard for him?

All depends on if they decide that Paxton is a better alternative.

The Lerner’s know Rizzo is leaking all this stuff and I doubt they are pleased. A bad start next year and he and Martinez will both be gone.

Could Roark be a non tender candidate?
Then you would need three more starting pitchers instead of two.

How he is moving on from Harper. How the trades for Harper were vetoed.

Anything that happens with this team is followed by leaks either praising Rizzo or blaming the lerners. Occasionally they get it wrong like blaming the lerners for scherzer’s contract

Ten million for Roark seems like an over pay

Roark has 3 straight years of 180+ innings. That has a lot of value by itself. You can't just throw 2-3 guys up out of the minors and expect them to stay healthy, let alone productive and healthy. There were only 50 pitchers in the majors last year who pitched 170 or more innings. I'm not saying Roark was great or even good - he ranked 41st in ERA out of those 50 pitchers. But just being able to throw someone non-terrible out there reliably for 6 innings for an entire season is worth $10 million.

Except he's terrible. 180 innings of Tanner Roark ball is basically saying you are punting the division.

He’s a decent number five. Need to sign to sign two others.

If he were 2 million, sure. There are options just as good for less than 10 million

I don't know if the Lerner's are good, middling, or bad owners. From living in many sports markets around the country, I've yet to encounter a fan base that had anything good to say about their local ownership. Comes with the territory.

Don’t be so sure. 4.34 ERa and 3.4 WAR. WHIP 1.281. And lots of innings eaten up which helps the pen.

If by 3.4 WAR, you mean 1.9.

The only reason Roark got to 180 innings is because his manager said freak it and didn't want to burn the pen.

Roark is in decline. He doesnt sit 92 with great movement, he sits 90 with average to below average movement. Hes gone from dominating lefty hitters to being crushed by them

Going by this. Says 3.4.

In any event as posters have noted you are not going to get a good starter for less than 10 million. And you will have to give someone a 2/3 year contract. They will need to ride Tanner out this year.

Bottom line is they need to sign a number three starter. Tanner will be number four. Then they will find someone off the scrap heap for number five. Fedde to fill in. Maybe they will get lucky and find someone like Hellickson. But who can pitch more than twice through the lineup.
