I recorded a series recently called "The Pacific War in Color". 6-7 parts I think. Just watched part 1 today. A lot more detail than what I remember learning in school.

My grandfather was there. LST 622. That’s one of many things I wish I was more attuned to when he was still alive to talk about.

There’s color tv now?

Pops thought it was a fad.     BTW, they even have smart phones now.

Pops was at Leyte Gulf and he kept a little diary  ....  more daily notes.     Uncle at Iwo Jima  ...   the rest were in Europe.

My dad was in the Marines. He was on a ship at Pearl Harbor during the attack and later fought on Okinawa.

More direct   ...  like 0500 alarm  ...  0715 fighters, etc.    He told me a story about a dive bomber and for some reason he didn't release a bomb or fire.    As the fighter pulled up, the old man swore the pilot looked back at him.

Interesting. Did he retain his rank when he reenlisted?

"Pops" is a popular military nickname  ...  like your grandad.     Or, older mates.

That I don’t know. I remember he told me in the first war he “enlisted for the duration”. Meaning he would serve as long as the war lasted. Since the first war wasn’t that long, for the US, I can’t imagine he was that high up the ladder.

The Masontown GF was the Italian commie.  :hysterical: “Pops” was from Louisville.
