I’m a youngster - I was only 7 during the crisis but I do remember those bomb drills!  My parents worked for the Office of Civil Defense Mobilization, which planned for the coordination of emergency military, civilian, and industrial mobilization in the event of military attack, so our household was all about being prepared. We had a space in the basement under the stairs stocked with canned food and water, just in case.  That agency’s functions were eventually folded into FEMA a few decades later.

Love how a discussion about Bryce turns into a discussion of the Cuban Missle Crisis.  Gotta love this place!

Wow, I really started something good here.  Gotta love it indeed !

My Cuban Missile Crisis story.  My dad was on his way back from Germany in a troop ship when it happened, due to be discharged from the Army on his return to the States.  He had been in Berlin when the Wall was knee high, exchanging jokes and insults with the East Germans.

His ship was diverted to Cuba. But the thing was resolved by the time it got within 100 miles of it.
