One of the best games of the year. Good hitting, good pitching (bullpen issues aside, gotta give some credit to Pujols and company), outstanding defense, but a really nice entertaining and exciting baseball game. Wow. This game had some incredible defensive plays.

It was really just Big John who struggled ... the rest of the pen, per usual, did an outstanding job ... I think Big John needs a rest ... maybe switch him to the 7th and put Jesus in the set up role for a while ...

I tell you what...if Manny Acta can get the Nats to 70+ wins....he should win Manager of the Year hands down!!  Simply because NO ONE and I mean NO ONE thought we'd get close to 50 wins.

If there's any justice in the world Kearns' grab must be the #1 Web Gem ...

It was the #2 Web Gem.  The #1 was an admittedly impressive leap by a Cleveland LF to steal a home run.  The guy literally got airborne to snag it out of the stands.

Nationals win!  And I win $20!
You should expect $40 more by Sunday night.  I forgot this week is Vermont Showdown Part 2 in the Forum Head 2 Head Fantasy league.  You're behind, but you've got several pitchers in play right now.  Why on earth is REYES on your team?  He's now 0-8.  You gotta get someone else!

As Nationals fans celebrate the first win of what will be a 3-game SWEEP!!!!!!!!!

Hmmm ...Kearn's grab saved two runs and it was a double play and as it turns out the difference in the game ... so of course, being totally biased ... I would have given it to Kearns

That's not really true. There were many of us that predicted more, there were journalists like Bill Ladson that actually said at the beginning of the season that said the Nats could do even better than last year's 71 wins, and there was the Vegas line that represented the smart money on betting that had the over/under at around 67 wins. Even ESPN started to report at the end of Spring training that the Nats were not as bad as some had originally thought.

Aim HIGHER!  As long as The Chief continues to AVOID watching the games on TV, we will continue winning.  We are CURRENTLY on a pace for 133 wins and 29 losses!

I just got back from the folks' place.  What a thrilling game and a great curly W.  I'd love for these guys to come home on a roll.

During that losing streak, I've heard a bunch of medidiots say things like "1962 Mets bad"..."historically bad"..etc..etc...

If they can continue to get these kinds of performances from the current "Motley Crew" of starters, I think we'll be in good shape when Hill, Bergemann and Patterson get back to 100%

That's a good term for those folks. People that pass final judgment on baseball teams or baseball players based on slumps or streaks over relatively small stretches of time are not good baseball analysts, because they don't really understand the game. I liked last night how Ray Knight pointed out how guys who historically hit .300 but have one month where they bat .200 are going to have another month where they bat .400. He's absolutely right. Somehow, a lot of people got it stuck in their heads that hitters and teams perform at the same level consistently from game to game.
