Just paid travel fees for the oldest  :hang: for the first time so I probably should start caring about the sport now (on a side note, I can totally see how the US struggles to develop talent, soccer ain’t cheap)

Not a soccer expert by any means but it looked like Rooney took control when he entered the game.    United was pretty bad the last half of the first half.    When he came in at 58', the team ran a lot of touches through Rooney.

I’m glad ‘Wazza’ had a positive impact on his debut.

Hoping he can carry it on after the relatively disappointing tenures of Gerrard and Lampard in the MLS.

Anyone here give me a scouting report on Columbus ‘keeper Zack Steffen? My lot are supposedly prepared to pay ~$4 Million for him, though reports suggest it’s been rejected after clearing a major hurdle yesterday!

Soccer transfers make Royce’s contract look positively straight forward.

historically, isn't goalkeeper the one position where the US has been able to develop a number of high quality players? I guess that's because it is a different set of skills, but it seems the US more or less gets as far in international competitions as its goalkeeper takes them. It sort of makes sense that MLS might be a place to find one relatively cheap.

Yeah, thanks Mitlen. Speculation over here that Columbus as a franchise are a bit skint, so think this is probably hoping to get more. The fact they said the money is ‘right’ means they definitely do.

From an outsiders perspective, absolutely.

Keller, Friedel and Howard, off the top of my head, were top quality over here. I never rated Guzan though.

Again, I have no idea if this is true, but his biological father was German which means he would effectively be able to qualify through that.

Even if not, generally, if the right palms are greased it can be overcome. I would say that an EPL team won’t normally face the scrutiny that an EFL team would though.

Having said all that, I can’t see it happening, which seems a shame as he looks like the real deal from what I save seen/read.

Columbus wants to move its team to Austin. And there are some lawsuits involved. Wonder if that's a factor?

8 p.m. MLS: New York Red Bulls at D.C. United » WJLA 24/7 News   ....  local team if the rain doesn't flood 'em out.

7:55 p.m. International Champions Cup: Borussia Dortmund vs. Benfica » ESPNews   ...  Dortmund has an American kid, Christian Pulisic   ...   there are others but he's supposedly the best of the lot

8 p.m. International Champions Cup: Manchester City vs. Liverpool » ESPN2   .....   Just because it's City and Liverpool   ...   :P

I think Pulisic scored two goals their last game. That might be worth a gander.

I think 60 Minutes did a piece on him.    That's what go my attention but this will be the first time I see him play.    You simply can't beat Dortmund's colors.     :P

We don't have it on TV down here...I guess the home opener was a one-time deal...

It appears the United game is local only.     Looks like ESPN is carrying the International tourney.     MLS is in a rain delay.
