« Topic Start: August 07, 2005, 12:59:24 PM »

Jake Peavy, RHP (9-4, 3.31)

Esteban Loaiza, RHP (6-7, 3.62)

Game Time: 1:05 PM

MLB Scouting Report:
The Padres won each of Peavy's last two starts -- which is significant because they lost 13 of 15 overall after Wednesday's loss to the Pittsburgh Pirates. Of all teams he has faced, Peavy's worst career ERA is against the Expos/Nationals franchise (6.65).

Against the Dodgers on Tuesday, Loaiza pitched seven innings and gave up four runs on five hits, three of which were long balls to Jeff Kent, Jason Repko and Jason Phillips. He struck out four batters and walked just one. Loaiza has yet to face the Padres this year.

Anyone know why Wilkerson is sitting?  I mean, other than general whiffitude.

Loaiza vs. Peavy means a GASP!  Another low scoring bore-fest.  Magnify that with today's lineup and you got a 1-0 game.

Except for Peavy, the Padres have the same lineup they used the first two games in the series, and that lineup got 27 hits off Nats pitching in those two games

It's a good deal more pleasant (read: way, way, WAY less humid) today than in the last five games.  I suspect there will be a significant drop-off in Padres hitting today, both because Loaiza is a pretty good pitcher and because the ball won't carry nearly as far.

Yes Ken - I see quite a shake up here.  Maybe not a bad thing - perhaps someone will break out today.

also, it look as if Guzman's hitting style WAS tampered with at the beginning of the season, thusly I am taking the anti-Guzman avatar down.

everything I've heard down here says that Guzman is going back to the hitting approach he used in Minnesota.

So far today, this lineup (with 6 bench players) is doing no worse than the full regular lineup.

I've been busy translating legal documents all morning, I only found out he was being called up when I came here this afternoon... Did they say if he would be playing and hitting leadoff? Because if he's up to warm the bench, someone's an idiot...

He has been getting good hard clean cuts at the ball since he went back to his old style. His at bats now are a lot more what most expected from him. I think whoever suggested he change his style to begin with has no business being with the team and should be fired.

dunno.

but you know how Frank is about playing the Kids.  I think he is gonna wam the bench personally, because Frank doesn't believe in playing rookies.

but at any rate, from what I hear Watson is supposed to be meeting the Nationals in Houston.

I don't like that decision that just gave them their run.

Why, at this early stage of the game, intentionally walk the 8th batter in the lineup?  The 8th batter isn't that good, that's why he's batting 8th.  Get him out and then start the next inning with the pitcher leading off.

Hey John, you aren't working the game today, do they do some sort of rotation type thing to get everyone in?
