Washington Capitals (2018-19)
« Topic Start: June 12, 2018, 04:39:28 PM »
Michael Pivonka's son, Jake, is a likely draft pick in the upcoming draft.  Played at Notre Dame.  Didn't see if Pivonka was one of the ex Caps at the parade today.

That should read 2017-2018 in red...

yes. Fixed.

Oh, the :w: feature for threads only works in the GDTs. Otherwise I would have marked 2017-2018 that way.

Not everyone...

I do remember someone - not me - saying earlier in the season:

trotz is done after this season anyways, writing has been on the wall.

So, listening to the NHL radio on the way home yesterday...widespread speculation is that we buy-out Orpik.

He has one year left on his deal at $5.50MM.

He would get 2/3 of that spread over the next 2 years, so $1.833MM for 2018-2019 and $1.833 for 2019-2020.

That saves $3.67MM next season to sign others and give raises, and effectively costs us $1.833 in cap hit in 2019-2020...

I would do that in a heartbeat...

That's OK...I said Buffalo had a better shot of making the playoffs than the Caps did...

Funny that our resident Phliers fan was the voice of reason on the 2017-2018 Caps...

I have a brother who says that crap every year about every DC team and actually believes it (he's a Smithian type) and now he's talking crap about how he called it and the rest of us were wrong and doesn't realize that his record is 4-160+ (and that doesn't include college teams). He's a freaking dumbass.

It's easier when you have multiple teams in every sport. You of all people should know that.

I chatted with a Sabres/Caps' fan during the parade yesterday.    He's a Caps' STH but had a Sabres' tee on under his Caps' sweater.    He said he's hopin' some of the Caps' luck rubs off.

My guy at Schwab is from Buffalo...big Sabres fan.  He's hopeful that this kid Dahlin as the first pick in the draft will help them, even though he's a D-man.  Bobby Orr was a D-man, so I guess there's that...

Chicago waited 49 seasons for the Blackhawks to break thru...and they got 3 Cups in 6 years.  The Caps waited 44 to get 1, you would think they could get another 1 while Ovi is here...

Fortunately they took the Cup to NY to dunk Kimmel's head rather than taking it to OPACY on Monday.  Ted hasn't been shy about courting that market.

Won't be popular here, I imagine, but I think they should take it to OPACY.

I believe I nailed the second and third round exactly. And only one game off in the finals.

Caps window closing. Flyers just opening.

or somewhere else in Baltimore.  Say Fort McHenry.  Or through the tunnel on the way to Carlson's home town  :P

My cousins lived in Buffalo from about '60 to '68.    I went to visit often and am familiar with the area.    I'm familiar with the sport's angst also.

The Steelers waited 40 or more years and then won 4 out of 6.     Man did that bandwagon get crowded.    I'm hopin' "back to back" with the Caps.     If they do, it'll be interesting to see how many remember Game 7 against the Knights.    ;)

Between the Brett Hull kick and the Bills' 4 straight Super Bowl losses, it's amazing that place didn't become one big Jonestown
