Here's what is keeping Geologists watching the activity on The Big Island up at night: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hilina_Slump

Quote
The Hilina Slump is a 5,000 cubic mile (20,000 kilometre³) section of the Big Island of Hawaii on the south flank of the Kilauea volcano. Between 1990 and 1993, Global Positioning System measurements showed a southward displacement of the south flank of Kilauea up to approximately 10 centimeters per year.[1] The slump has the potential of breaking away at a faster pace in the form of an underwater landslide. In Hawaii, landslides of this nature are called debris avalanches. If the entire Hilina Slump were to slide into the ocean at once, it could cause an earthquake in excess of a 9 in magnitude, and a megatsunami. Previous megatsunamis in Hawaii 110,000 years ago caused by similar geological phenomena may have created waves 1,600 feet (500 m) tall.[2]

I don't know much about this kind of stuff but it has a ring of Mt. St. Helens to me   ....   like a blow out.    In this case though, it looks like a "landslide".

yeah, the odds of a major event are extremely small, but if there was a collapse it would be devastating to the US west coast.

A little different though, due to having representatives in Congress who are liked across the aisle.

Like Puerto Rico. Not a concern to the mainland.

Halemaumau crater sent an ash plume ~12k feet into the sky, they are still worried about a more dramatic eruption of rock and ash as the magma lake recedes, allowing water to enter the chamber.

Madame Pele is very very angry. Not sure why. Could be the ESPN Sunday night baseball broadcasts.

According to the locals, Pele is annoyed about the geothermal plant near Lelani Estates, but so far that's been spared from the fissures.

I thought I remembered Howard Dashefsky from doing sports on the news during the 1980s.

He also played first base on UH's only College World Series team.

Yes. They are as inane as anyone else that makes such claims.  :)

When you go to the Natuonal Park they have many stories of those who have taken volcanic rock away from the island. And then suffered Pele's wrath. And then sent the rock back to Hawaii.
