The orioles finish out March unbeaten, tied for first, and with a 0.00 team ERA

Can they do it?  Can they break the losing streak record of 21 games?

On the attendance topic, apparently the Os poor attendance has made a large dent in Maryland's tax take from OPACY.  IIIRC, they had averaged something like $6+MM a year (?) for the past 20 years but in 2021 that's down to a little over $1MM.

Quote
The authority, which is the Orioles’ landlord, received $1.6 million in rent from the team during the fiscal year ending June 30, according to records obtained in a Public Information Act request.

That compares with the average of $6.8 million per year during the club’s 30-year lease.

The rent payments, paid in February and August, rise and fall each year based partly on how much interest the Orioles are generating. The club has been losing, and the pandemic has been a huge drag on attendance, causing fans to be barred completely from the stadium in 2020.

The club pays the the stadium authority 7% of ticket sales, 25% of net stadium advertising revenues, 50% of net parking revenues, 9% of concessions sales, and 10% of suite and club-level revenues.

If Birdland cared about that, they could’ve at the very least done the Susan O’Malley thing and market the American League to the entire state and south central Pennsylvania

That is a shockingly small take for a downtown stadium, even one in Baltimore.

This shows how bad the numbers are across MLB. Of course most places had Covid restrictions first part of the year.  Six teams below 10500 per game. Of course the Toronto numbers are skewed by playing the first couple months at their spring facility.

stadium deals aren't about directing revenue to the state

Good thing there are all of those MoCo Teslas with Birdland stickers whose ratepayer owners support the Maryland Stadium Authority  :P

Time for the Baltimore Orioles to move back to St. Louis, giving up the pretension that they have ever owned Washington.

Hyde acting like he found Ozzie Guillen and Ron Washington's dealer.

Angelos was so proud to claim that Washington is Baltimore territory. The Orioles should go back to St Louis.

That graph is just deceptive. I am sure of you adjusted the x and y-axes, that 0.0% would look more impressive.  ;)

Camden Yards moving back the LF wall 30 feet, and raising the height to 12 feet.

Has anyone seen an artist's rendering or any type of graphic for what this will look like?

I’m sure that’s a factor. But they do have more HRs there than other parks.

As low as the LF wall was, the seats were even lower.  You were kind of peering over the lip of a trench from the front row.

too bad.  The concept of the wall there was to allow a good left fielder to rob homers.  Ain't gonna happen with a 12' wall.  More flies in play will mean more fly outs, but maybe more XBH. Makes OPACY less OPACY.

By a quick look at The Athletic, the Baltimore signed twenty-three (23!) international players today from a $6.2 million bonus pool.

Cristian Benavides, SS, Venezuela
Ezequiel Bonilla, RHP, Panama
Edrei Campos, SS, Dominican Republic
Elis Cuevas, SS, Dominican Republic
Adrian Delgado, RHP, Venezuela
Aron Estrada, INF, Venezuela
Elias Moscoso, RHP, Venezuela
Andres Nolaya, C, Venezuela
Jesus Palacios, RHP, Venezuela
Andres Parra, LHP, Venezuela
Fernando Peguero, SS, Dominican Republic

Raylin Ramos, OF, Dominican Republic

I don't understand what the Baltimore Browns are up to.

A couple other teams sign ten or a dozen players, and one signed sixteen, but twenty-three?

Quantity over quality? They figure by spending cheap and throwing the money around they may get one or two players on the cheap who might make the big league roster.
