Possible Orioles sale?

https://baltimorepostexaminer.com/nashville-orioles-baltimore-needs-a-local-buyer-to-step-up-to-the-plate/2019/08/11

I can see them selling for sure. I don't see them selling to an investor who will move them to Nashville, primarily because I don't think the potential Nashville ownership group here is prepared for that so quickly. The city is also in a major battle publicly to get the MLS stadium going, despite it being mostly privately-funded. I don't see the city footing the bill for an even bigger stadium for MLB when they just funded a AAA stadium in 2015, and I don't see ownership groups paying for a stadium themselves.

OPACY lease is almost up, I don’t see anyone paying a premium for the Os and not demanding a new stadium (be it from Baltimore or somewhere else)

The Orioles should just take off from the Port at Balimore and become a barnstorming team. Travel from port to port, carrying the team and its gear on a garbage ship. Play wherever a town wants to dump its garage.:

Like I've said before, poetic justice would involve the Orioles moving to Montreal.

It would be a shame to leave Camden empty.   Best outcome is a decent new owner

The lease is almost up and Camden isn’t set up to make money like more modern parks - just think about the number of suites or amount of retail vs a more modern park

Building a brand new park in Baltimore seems like insanity. Any official who supports public funds for such an endeavor needs to be run out of town on a rail.

Its Baltimore. It's pretty much the lock of the century that it's going to happen.

Torres has 26 home runs this season. Half of them are against the Orioles. HALF.

Which is why I’d expect them to move, either to a suburb willing to build or to another city

You'd think they'd have to settle our MASN suit to seriously put them on the market.  Any idea what happens to the MASN agreement if they leave?

They own the nats rights, but the nats own a share of their rights too- not sure it resolves anything

It's not really that simple though is it?  Orioles own a 90% interest that will eventually be 66% of MASN and are obligated to show the Nats at some rate no one can agree to.   It would seem unlikely they'd sell to anyone with all that unresolved.  I can't see MLB approving a sale and move with the Nashville Orioles being the controlling owners of MASN.

And I think a local sale would absolutely be dependent on tieing a bow on what the MASN deal really means.

you could probably renovate that 2d deck / mezzanine to put in boxes and the like.  Also the areas under the overhangs on the first level.  I'd think an nice spruce up could drop the capacity down to about 38,000 - 41,000, which is where Nats Park and other current stadiums come in.

Asking Baltimore to subsidize the removal of seats to create more suites seems pretty politically untenable to me

no, but a new owner might be willing to after some negotiations.  Maybe some relief on taxes, maybe some revenue off a hotel tax.  City can always say they don't want a hole there.  The hotels probably also would like something there.

The 2019 Baltimore Orioles have been eliminated from postseason contention.
