Makes the Expansion Senators look successful. Finished 38 games back in 1968, '70, and '71. About 48.5 games back in 1963, Hodges' first year.

Battle-hardened Nats' fans toughened during the 1955 season: 45 games back, dead last, in a 154 game season

The Orioles remind me of the movie Cool Hand Luke when George Kennedy is fighting Paul Newman. At the start of the fight all the inmates are cheering George Kennedy on to beat the crap out of Paul Newman. After a while it gets so ugly they just want to look away and say enough is enough. That's the orioles. Beginning of the year it was die you dirty dogs. Now it's okay, I've seen enough ugliness.

Orioles are now 53.5 games out of 1st place.  With 25 games to go, I'm guessing the Orioles will set a new record at 58 games behind at the end of this season.

The O's now sit 50½ games behind the Boston Red Sox in the American League East.  They could set a record:

Since division play began in 1969, only three teams have ever finished 50-plus games behind a first place team – the 1979 Toronto Blue Jays (50½ games behind the Orioles in the AL East), the 1998 Tampa Bay Devil Rays (51 games behind the New York Yankees in the AL East) and the 1998 Florida Marlins (52 games behind the Atlanta Braves in the NL East).

That's kinda how I felt for a while, but at this point, they're on the brink of making history which is kind of fun.

Hurricane Florence will help the Orioles minimize the extent to which they break the Games Behind record

How dire is it in Birdland right now?

Unless I miscounted, yesterday's result against the contending A's (in front of an announced attendance of 10,480) marks the 18th time the Orioles have allowed 10 or more runs this season.

Also:  The Orioles, in their annus horribilis of 1988 when they lost their first 21, ultimately finished 54-107; with their current record, the 2018 Orioles will have to go at least 14-2 the rest of the way to avoid equaling or exceeding that season's record.

I think 69 is out of the question.

they should probably make Chris Davis GM and coach so he'd at least earn part of his salary. :)

It will be interesting to see who the O's get for GM & manager - who they get that will work for Peter Angelos

Brady Anderson is going to be the GM. He's been gunning for the gig for a while and is a big factor in the friction between the Angelos family and Duquette.
