True, but (albeit its still early to tell) a rotation of Scherzer, Stras, Gio, Roark, and Reynaldo would have been a formidible rotation that every other GM would envy. No use arguing about it though, because you know. Mighty Mouse

Robbie Ray and Alex Meyer also might yet end up being success stories (albeit for other teams).

Drafting good pitching is definitely Rizzo's weak point, but it's not as bad as it seems.  The Nats traded a lot of guys because of "win now" mode.

The portion that gm’s would envy are the result of luck and an owner willing to break the bank, not inherent shill on the part of the gm

But this isn't Kansas City or Tampa Bay or anything. An owner willing to break the bank should be considered an asset to a good GM, not a detriment. You cant dock someone who wants and has the ability to go out and get a Scherzer

Not docking, but not giving him credit either. I think Rizzo is a decent above average gm who lucked into Harper and Strasburg and an owner who decided to spend. Most of his other moves have been fine, nothing terrible some good trades a bunch of questionable managers, but no pulling a star out of the fourth round. For a guy who has a reputation as a great scout, I just don’t see it reflected in his drafts- his biggest hits are the major league equivalent of auto drafting

I think the last team to win a world  series having no lefties starters all year was the '04 Red Sox.  There are lineups and parks you want lefties to pitch in.

Alex Meyer’s career just died. Until Rizzo develops some actual talent and these bums do something other than getting their colons pounded in during the NLDS he’ll always be an overrated blowhard to me.
