Could be, but Boz reported that Werth's continued appearance in the playoffs was one of the reasons Dusty was let go. By that point, his contract was up. Who would brace Dusty for removing him from the line up at that point?

This is purely speculation on my part but I could see Rizzo "asking" Rusty why he is continuing to play Werth in the play offs as it was apparent to everyone that he was a liability both defensively and offensively. I do not think anyone in ownership would have broached the subject except after we were eliminated. The very fact that Werth is stinking it up in Tacoma tells me he is finished. Perhaps Werth was such a strong clubhouse persona that Rusty thought benching him would adversely affect the "chemistry".

The thing about Werth though is that he was hitting quite well before he got hurt.  He probably getting right around the 100 plate appearances post injury at playoff time.  It wasn't completely misguided to think he might get going as the playoffs went and he could be an important cog in going deep in the playoffs.  He was showing some signs of heating up and was 2 for 4 in game 5.

Was his defense really that bad?  Or was it just the ball lost in the lights that everyone is remembering?

Did this actually happen in a game?  Misplays (or looses) a ball, it goes over his head, and he stands there looking stupid rather than go after the ball?

Yes, he lost the ball in the lights and was trying to deke the baserunners.  I'm not sure how he knew the ball bounced over the wall for a ground rule double without even looking.

Yes. He lost it in the lights and stood there to decoy the runners on base. He said after that game that he had discussed the possibility with MAT beforehand given the lighting which for like 5-10 minutes at twilight makes it really difficult to see.

In my opinion this play was much, much, much worse and was when I wrote off Jayson Werth.

He needs to step aside so his UVA buddy can play more.

What a debut from Mark Reynolds.

Let's hope Zimmerman stays on the DL with a hangnail for the rest of the season.

Let Adams and Reynolds rake.

Zimm is helping by being hurt. Last night is a loss with him in instead of Reynolds. How I wish Reynolds was on first for the home opener when Zimm came up with the bases loaded and hit a weak fly to shallow right.

Mark Reynolds had a great game last night but lets not anoint him the next Babe Ruth yet. There's a reason he was available last month. I hope he continues to be a force in the Nats lineup and hopefully Reynolds, Zim and Adams can platoon at first and Adams and Reynolds can platoon in left until Eaton comes back.

I love how everyone wants to bench the guy who hit .303/.358/.573 last year (and .316/.361/.614 in his last 15 games) for a dude with career .786 OPS

This is from Jon Heyman's notes the other day.

"While Ryan Zimmerman’s stats aren’t great, his hard-hit rate is again among the NL leaders, lending credence to the belief it was OK for Zimmerman to basically skip spring training. While they haven’t talked about his unusual approach, one person said he had 'discomfort in his leg'."

Sounds like a leg problem kept him out of spring training.

Zim will be just fine. If it helps him to take a day off now and then we have guys who can step in. Zim also is the one nat who shows up big in the playoffs.

Maybe he needs more AB's at fields with no TV cameras

The Yanks are coming back on June 18, 12 years after the Zimmerman walk off. Double walk off this year?

Oh you think he'll be off the DL in a month?
