Not surprising now that they are routing marvel and star wars through it

They have removed the MLB app from my third generation Apple TV. YouTube also. NBCSports disappeared a couple months ago.

Can they be added back in?

Not that I can figure out.

https://www.macrumors.com/2021/03/02/mlb-app-removed-on-third-gen-apple-tv/

I bought my Apple TV a year ago. I don't know what gen it is but it's 4k/64 GB and I have MLB and youtube on it.

That would be 4th generation.  Mine is probably 8 years old.  Out of date.  Much like me.

FWIW, the Apple TV app now runs on Roku.

Sell the old one on FB marketplace and treat yourself to a new 4k TV and Apple TV box.  :money:

Or don't buy Apple products :stir:

Just kidding - sadly "planned obscolescence" is baked into pretty much everything these days.

I got the Apple TV previously because it's easier to connect other things from my lap top and phone such as pics but I really don't use them that much.  So I may just go with something cheaper.  Or just watch on my laptop.

They have the same issues of Apple. It’s not so much planned obsolescence of older units as inadequate DRM to appease streaming services

I spent the big bucks on Apple TV for 1 reason and 1 reason only - it was to watch Limbaugh do his radio show. But now that he's gone to that big radio station in the sky it doesn't do anything different for me that an Amazon firestick does.

My experience says otherwise

I have yet to be unable to watch anything on either of my Roku devices.

I have about six year old Roku stick that works fine, and a newer one. No issues.

I’ve found that MLB.tv performs much better on a current-generation Apple TV device (we have two of those) than it does on a Fire Stick or Fire Cube (we have three of those).

My wife likes the Amazon remote a lot better than the Apple remote, and I can’t say as I blame her there. Fast-forwarding, in particular, is a nuisance with the Apple remote's touchpad.

Troll answer: good thing I don't use Netflix (runner up: "so like I said, no problem watching anything on any of my devices")

Serious answer:

Quote
Last month, old Roku streaming box owners received some bad news as Netflix revealed it would no longer stream on pre-2011 Roku devices after Dec. 1.

9 years out of a commodity device is pretty damn good these days (It's also not a Roku issue so much as it is a Netflix business decision). Hardly a reason to exhibit such hostility to the entire brand (though we don't know what Gata's reasons are).

 Netflix is a pretty common app and the oldest devices are getting dropped. For people who were among the early cord cutters, those are the rokus they have- it’s not like they break, the one you buy in 2010 probably still works in 2021

It's not like that's exclusive to Roku, nor does it have any bearing on my rebuttal.  People who cut the cord in 2010 and people who don't upgrade their devices for 10 years have a laughably small overlap.  Nevermind that entry level Rokus are cheap as dirt.  If someone buys into a halo-tier technology product expecting it to last forever then I don't know what to say.
