You roku guys are so touchy and protective about your choice.

all I know is I've had the stick for about 3-4 years now with no issues, though I only use it to watch ESPN+ as there's no ESPN app on my LG Smart TV

That's what you took away from that?

I just happened to choose Roku when I was making the initial jump (mostly based on downstream factors like the cost of the plans that carried the channels I wanted and their availability on various devices).  I'm at the point in life where if it ain't broke, I'm not interested in trying to fix it.  Traditional able costs were to the breaking point for us, so a nice antenna and a cheap Roku seemed like a good move.  We've been extremely happy so far so it's unlikely I'll even look into anything else unless that changes.

Observant.

Clearly not.  You do you.  I got lucky on the first thing I tried and see no reason to shop around, but that doesn't mean I can't be curious what others enjoy about their choices, or that I have any reason to care that anyone else chose differently than me.

Again, for those of you that are cord cutters and want locals (in this area), try locast.org. There is a Roku channel. $5 per month will get rid of the pleading every time you start it.

Local channels look great.

Nice tip, I'll have to check that out.

Depends entirely on the practical effects of the announcement. End of Life support for products isn't all that unusual in the computer world and the devices continue to work afterwards.  On the flip, you have something like a Barracuda Message Archiver which gets a little crippled and gimped without a current support contract.

From imref's announcement I can't tell if the box will be useless, or just not receive patching, updates, or tech support.

Okay, yeah that's some varsity level BS there. They must have been taking notes from Sony. (Okay, probably a ton of companies, but Sony is the only one so far to make digital content I paid for unavailable)

$39 Roku stick covers all those services. I suppose web-based DVR is slower?

I got a FiOS upgrade from 75MB to 1 GB this week.  Install took about an hour, though I had to move my home router as I only had a Coax run to the existing FiOS router.  Anything above 200 MB requires an Ethernet connection from the router to the FiOS optical network box.

I posted a few weeks ago that the existing router was on the other side of the house.  So I just moved it to the room on the other side of the wall from the ONT.  Speeds are around 400/400 now via Wi-Fi.  At some point i'll upgrade the FiOS G1100 to something better.  I still need a FiOS router for TV, but if you don't use FiOS TV you can install whatever router you want.

I would imagine it varies by service, but Philo's DVR has been phenomenal for us.  Roku stick itself is far faster than our FiOS box ever was (not a very high bar to clear, but still)

YouTube TV experiencing an outage. Started right before Final Jeopardy. Couldn’t have had the decency to wait five more minutes.  :bang:

Terribly slow and they replaced the channel icons with a generic “tv” icon so as you scroll through the guide you can’t tell the names of the channels.  There are 100 pages of complaints on the Verizon support forum https://forums.verizon.com/t5/Fios-TV-Technical-Assistance/Sept-2020-Fios-DVR-and-Guide-Update/td-p/901983
