It was a really bad time for Goodwin to get hurt. If he doesn't get hurt Soto never comes up, Goodwin gets plenty of playing time.
Sounds like it worked out for us then

Reynolds is too hot right now to take off the roster.  Things just don't fit.  Adams/Reynolds are a perfect platoon at 1B as is.  I'm not a Face Hater and think given a chance to get back in a groove that he's going to outperform Reynolds over the long haul.  There are years and years and years of evidence to support who is better.  But we need wins now, so you can't afford to sit a hot bat to give Zim a Spring Training.  And Adams should start against every righty.

Goodwin also just doesn't have much of a fit here as another lefty OF.

Worse...straight out DFA, isn't it?  He could be gone for good...

They better not do that.   :glug:

He's still very interesting.  Maybe he builds up to a September stint and proves worthy of a postseason roster spot.  But the main thing is get him healthy and confident again so he can play a role next season.

So Friday my guess is Strasburg/Zimmerman replace Suero and Goodwin.  Does Goodwin have options

When Doo returns very shortly, it gets really tricky.  I'd guess one of the bullpen guys gets some sort of phantom injury for the DL, then they kind of rotate them to keep them fresh with someone later getting a DL stint.

We have an open spot(24 on active right now) so its either suero or goodwin. my guess is they dfa goodwin, he gets claimed and they work out a trade. if he has options then he goes down. i think he should have 1 left.

Goodwin doesn’t have any options, and don’t forget Zim is on the 60-day so he needs a spot on the 40-Man, so either a trade or a DFA is coming. There’s no one currently on the 10-day DL that would be a candidate for the 60-day.

Ok, I missed the unearned runs part of that equation. I stand corrected.
Well there's unearned runs and then there's unearned runs.   Pitcher gets two outs, next guy gets on on an error, then the pitcher gives up eight runs.  None of those runs are earned runs. At least seven of those were the pitcher's fault and there should be some stat that measures "Pitcher's fault runs" but there isn't. Which  category were Strasburg's runs?

really curious as to which team has room on its 25 man roster for a lefty 4th OF with no options. Injuries somewhere?  My guess is that a team claims him off waivers, adds him to the 25 man, then waives him again when they need the roster space.

Honestly, I think a bunch of teams would take a shot on Goodwin. The guy OPS'd over .800 in 2017 and can play decent CF defense. I would think some team would take a shot at him.

I think there is room on the 25-man on several teams for a guy like Goodwin.  In fact, I think he could start for some teams, let alone be a 4th OF.

Add Goodwin in the package to get JT.

The Marlins don't want him. He'll be arbitration-eligible in 2020 and he's out of options.  They want guys they can build around for 3-4 years without having to pay a ton for them. Not that Goodwin would be hauling down a fortune but he'll still get something at arbitration.

I like him a lot, but his lack of options probably limits his market.  Unless he can walk in and start for you, you aren't going to be able to get him the playing time to realize his talent.  His  lack of options limits your roster flexibility if you are a contender.  Maybe a team like the Indians would pick him up, send Allen down, and play or have him on the bench until chisenhall is back (is he coming back?), then waive him against and hope he slips through.

I hate to say it, but it it comes down to having to DFA someone, I think it'll be Reynolds...if for no other reason, the 7 year age difference and potential value...

I'm prepared to be wrong on this one...

Reynolds could be an impact bat during a run for the WC or in the playoffs if he is hot. We can find 5th OFers anywhere.

Goodwin has to go over Reynolds.

I'm starting to wonder if it won't be MAT that goes, in a trade.

I thought about that, but I almost think, despite his limited playing time lately, that Rizzo would have an unreasonable demand for him.

Not like they have until the trade deadline to do something if Stras, Zimm and Doo are all coming back this weekend...

I don't think a contender is making a move for him now.  I mean perhaps in the offseason, unless a team wants him added to a prospect package for a move at the deadline.

Wouldn't that slot be for Doo when he returns?

Someone else would still have to go away. 6 man pen, 6 man bench.

I just dont think Rizzo knows and with his big three, he can waffle a bit
