Is Doolittle off the DL?

Looks like it, according to multiple people talking about Doolittle on Twitter.

No, he's still on the DL. I believe he threw another sim game today and they will evaluate him tomorrow. Doo is only being talked about on twitter because of his Pimp Your Home Run challenge, and because he's sorely missed.

I honestly see zero reason to bring him back other than to ride that bullpen cart.

Yep. End his season. Holland deserves a shot at closing. Frankly they need to look at trading Doolittle in the offseason

Deserves? No one on this team deserves a damned thing. If you’d have said to try Holland out to see if he’s worth bringing back next year I’d be all over that.

Honestly Holland does. Worked with the staff, fixed his mechanics, has been lights out from the pen. Holland deserves the closing job because hes earned it

For his 2 weeks of service with the Nats?

Who is the best reliever on the roster right now?

Irrelevant. Since you want to keep pushing your theory about deserving I’m going back to my contention that no one on this team deserves anything.

You're being a twat.

Even on a bad team, you get the role your performance deserves. Holland is the best reliever on this team. He is also the only experienced closer. He deserves to be the closer on this team. Especially when EVERYONE else has struggled in it.

I’m not convinced.

In the "too little, too late" department, Hellickson is being activated off the DL today.  There's no clear role for him-- we seem to have gone from "not enough starting pitchers" to an over-abundance in the last couple of weeks-- but he is willing to pitch in relief if that's the only way he can get into a game.

I'd like to see him as a reliever. He clearly cant get through a lineup three times. But man, him as a reliever could be good.  Knowing you have a guy you could bring in the 4th or 5th and get to your "normal" bullpen

I'd take Hellickson over Roark's 10.0 ERA over his last few starts.

If there  are no further rain outs, the Nats will need a 6th starter on Saturday, so that's Hellickson (or Voth or Ross).  Stras today, Max tomorrow, Jeffry on Friday, then #6 on Saturday before we bring Fedde or Roark on normal rest Sunday.

For Saturday, I'd like to see Joe Ross start, go 3 innings or once through the order, then Hellickson back him up like the Rays.

If Hellickson is due to start, I would be interested in seeing Martinez use the opener strategy.

Rather see Voth. There really isnt a big market for starting pitchers who struggle to go five innings. Hellickson's earning potential is greater as a reliever at this point. And he doesn't need a lot of velocity with that change up.

Hellickson would be a decent addition to the Nats pen for 19. Same goes for Holland and Herrera.

Doolittle, Holland, Herrera, Suero, Grace, Glover, Hellickson.
