With no guaranteed roster spot, it appears Ryan Raburn will choose to retire. It’s reported that he’s packed his locker and is saying goodbye to folks.

Also apparently we will be releasing Hellickson then re-signing him, a move that has to do with service time and roster spots, and which was planned all along, but will probably cause panic when MLBTradeRumors mis-reports it.

I don't hate the Montero move, it gives Severino the chance to play every day.  If Wieters has another down year, he'll get his chance this year.  I guess this means Gott makes the OD roster?

He is just tedious to watch. Move him to the pen ASAP.

Stras with a rocky 1st. Max gave up 4 ER yesterday. Cole needs to have a MVP type season.

Also...what's the latest on Ross? Is he throwing yet? Will we see him at all this year?

I like it. Might generate some RBI chances for Taylor and Wieters.

Maybe we're finally getting something tangible in return for Yunel Escobar.  It's been a loooong wait.

Talk about a shaky middle-inning bullpen.   Anyone have any confidence in it?  When Benoit returns from injury my confidence level will not increase one iota.  Looks like it's going to be an adventurous 2018 regular season (just the way RayD wants it).

so Difo, Adams, and Goodwin are the only bench players?  I guess a RP goes down when Murphy returns (if not sooner)

Sammy Solis looks like he is finally healthy again. So that helps.

Starting pitching is the major worry and not the bullpen.

I agree about SP being the biggest worry.
Could be pound city after Stras. Roark is iffy; Gio won't  have Maddox to settle him down and Cole is just not a starting pitcher

Have to agree. This is why I predicted a 88 win season. The greatest loss from the off season was Maddox.

I suspect they use Adams and Goodwin to pinch hit, along with maybe some starting pitchers to bunt guys along, and save Difo or Kendrick for defensive moves and covering for injuries.

In the era of the 45-man bullpen, there are only four skills that are really relevant to being an MLB bench player: being an above-average hitter lefthanded, being able to play shortstop, being able to play center field, and being able to catch.

If you can't do one of those 4, you're hosed as to making a roster.  If you can do 2 of the 4, you're in good shape (and if one of those two is the hitting, you're a bit unlucky not to be a starter).  If you can only do one of the four, you better hope there is nobody trying to make the same bench with that one tool who is better than you at any of the others.

But my man Howie possesses none of those 4 skills...

Your man Howie is the starting second baseman.  When he's not, Difo is, and if Difo's starting, you don't need SS on the bench and can carry an extra dude in another category, such as an above-average RH hitter to match the lefty.  And there fits your man Howie.  Alternatively, just delete the word "lefthanded" from the post, as it's the single least important word in any of those criteria.
