any rumors where the stages will be?

Too soon to call - this is just the preliminary 'you get the Depart' agreement.

I drove along some of the roads in the Yorkshire Dales that were part of the course last go around...there's pretty much zero flat and even less straight

Edinburgh to stage the Grand Depart, in the 2027 Tour. No more stage details, as yet.

By the way, strong showing for Americans in Paris Nice. Or should I say Nice showing?

That was a proper Paris-Nice.  But those guys had better be careful, speaking foreign languages and being mindful of local sensibilities can get one in trouble.

except for the whole "race to the Sun" aspect. More like "race through a typical New England coastal storm."

Has there ever been as many high quality Americans in the pro peleton at once? Certainly not as many on different teams. You have Americans as key riders on Visma (Kuss and Jorgenson), UAE (McNulty), EF (Powless), plus emerging guys like Sheffield on Ineos, several regular domestiques and some others that coming out of u-23 and juniors.

The Lance Armstrong effect?  He may be persona non grata now but US Cycling boomed during his reign.

possibly, but Sepp Kuss was 10 when Armstrong wore yellow in Paris the last time in 2005. Jorgensen was 5.

I knew about some of the difficulties before he became a professional and knew about Team Wiggins's failure to launch. Lost track of him and did not know of the decline.

The cocaine is straight Pantani / Ullrich . . .

To top it off, there's Lance actually being the good soul here. Armstrong has such a strange legacy.

Given Wiggins's accomplishments, I'd love it if somebody gave him a broadcasting gig. Just with subtitles.

Pantani and Ullrich are just the ones who got exposed (one way or another), but from what I hear it's pretty pervasive.  I'll certainly not be throwing the first stone.

Sky had an amazing run, and Ineos seems to be on the rebound, at least in the mix if not a contender.

The Tour gets underway, today, with Pogacar the hottest favorite in years. I take it we're operating our usual radio silence for 24 hrs after each stage?... ;)

And so we're off to the worst possible start for the race - if it wasn't a two-horse-race before, it is now... ;)

I could give a flip about bike racing but this year the Tour will go through Bayeaux and Saint Malo which I was lucky enough to visit this past May, both towns are absolutely exquisite and I will be watching every minute they race through there :)

could use a tommy voelker to get the yellow then fight like heck through the first set of mountains to keep it.

Refreshing, in modern media-managed sports, to hear such honesty from Evenepoel - conceding that, barring completely unforseen circumstances, his Tour is already over...

Remco looked good in stage 2 and was well supported
Roglic had to do his own work and was barely staying alive. I wonder if Lipowitz is stronger

There should be opportunities for stage hunters

Thankfully. Overall, Pogacar's pre-race form, particularly in the Dauphine, was so devastating that it appears to have psychologically dispirited all of his opponents. In pre-race interviews, even Vingegaard seemed to be struggling to convince himself that he would win the title...

Jorgenson looks in good form so JV may have the top domestique. Wellens seems good for the flats and small sharp climbs. Haven't been impressed yet by the rest of UAE. Lots of the climbers have lost time already.IDK if Skjelmose will be supported (it seems Milan so far), but he's my dark horse.

Could see Powless pulling a Voelker and being let go in a breakaway

Clearly not Evenepoels year - touching to see Roglic offering support, to Remco, after yet another crash. Fortunately, The BIg Two have managed to avoid it all...

Over here, the sad news is that, following decades of coverage which has done much to boost interest in cycling, this is the final Tour which shall be FTA - next year, it's behind TNT Sport's paywall. Maybe good business, for ASO, but a move which has been condemned by all sides, in the UK. All it is likely to do is encourage piracy rates to rise - as you know, not something I approve of, but it's general knowledge (I'm not revealing some clandestine secret) that some shall, no doubt, geo-unlock French TV coverage...
