To give the TOB credit, it's one of the few significant sports events to come up here to the true North of England (for example, I'm 220 miles north of Manchester).
you’ve probably told us before but where are you located Natsie?

ToB was once called the "Milk Race", no?

"North" as in Geordie?  One of my uncles is from Durham, he becomes very difficult to understand once he's had a few  :D

Don't know if you caught this, but it evokes Mean Joe Green giving the kid his jersey, except it is real life and not a commercial (and a water bottle isn't a jersey).

https://www.cyclingnews.com/news/pascal-eenkhoorn-wins-hearts-and-praise-for-passing-bidon-to-young-tour-of-britain-fan/

The kid also ends up with a Jumbo Visma jersey too.  See you in 5 years, Xander.

I'm in Cumbria (home of the Scenic Lake District - UNESCO World Heritage Site)  :D
Cool. Will put it on the bucket list. Have been to London but not the rest of the country.

See previous post - opposite side of the country. However, Mrs Natsie is a Newcastle girl, so I have lots of Geordie relatives... :D   Durham is a lovely city, though - especially the Cathedral Quarter. They do an excellent (bi-annual) 'son-et-lumiere' on the Cathedral itself. I was once invited to work at (the well regarded) Durham Uni, but I ended up at (the equally well regarded) Dundee Uni instead... ;)
Every time I hear Newcastle this song pops into my mind.

“ On a muddy pitch in Newcastle
Where it rains so much
You can't wait for a touch
Of sun and sand, sun and sand.”

Oops - sorry Ali - forgot about 'Milk'....

You are correct - that was when the race was sponsored by the Milk Marketing Board (a Quango - that's 'Quasi Autonomous Non-Governmental Organisation', for the uninitiated - an organisation to which a government has devolved power, but which is still partly controlled and/or financed by government bodies.).

Go-on - be honest...how many of you thought that a Washington Nationals forum would end up discussing the Milk Marketing Board... :hysterical: :hysterical: :hysterical:

Also the theme music from Jaws
I'm sure he's told you that Durham's claim to fame is as the home of the Pink Panther. Well, how does the theme music go?  'Dur-ham, Dur-ham, Dur-ham-Dur-ham-Dur-ham...' :hysterical:

Remember John Dowie's line about the Dutch using 'the wrong side of the road to ride around on bikes...'  ;)

Beating Vos and the Dutch women is impressive. Also, USA U-23 woman took a silver

The womens race on Saturday was also really good - Balsamo clearly couldn't believe that she edged out Vos in the sprint.

I'm liking our younger guys.  That's two really nice races by McNulty and Powless at the Olympics and the Worlds road race. Kuss is one of the best non-Slovenian at big mountains, and Quinn Simmons looks like a good classics guy.  Need Matteo Jorgensen to step up.  Best we've looked since Tejay and Taylor Phinney were just starting out.  2012 - TVG best young rider at the Tour / 5th place, and Phinney with I think 2 4ths at the Olympics.

I've always been surprised that Cavendish is allowed to compete on equal terms with other cyclists - take a look at the Manx flag... ;)

That sucks.  Like the Barca Unicef jersey, sports sponsorship by charities has the business viability of a chaste hooker.

from the article, next hash hasn't been paying their sponsorship and Premier tech decide to  switch from Astana to Bike Exchange after Qhubeka was counting on them to come on board.
