Oh yes.  Short steep hills and cobbles, throw in some cold rain and mud for good measure.

Roubaix with a light snow is my favorite

I rode a short stretch of P-R cobbles in dry conditions and it was absolutely awful.  I cannot imagine doing that at race speed.

Sad to see this thread dead. After a couple of months, trainer road is proving to be both miserable and incredibly productive.

could have put this in the uncensored coronavirus thread:
https://www.cyclingnews.com/news/riders-and-team-staff-react-to-reported-uae-tour-coronavirus-outbreak/

Quote
On Thursday night, the Abu Dhabi Sports Council and the UAE Tour organiser RCS Sport announced that two Italian staff members of a participating team tested positive for coronavirus SARS-CoV-19. On Friday the UCI issued a statement saying "two cases of coronavirus were suspected among two staff members of one of the participating teams."
...
Jos van Emden, road captain at Jumbo-Visma appeared critical of the testing conditions, noting that everyone to be tested was held close together in a small corridor, potentially aiding the spread of the virus.

"On the second floor in a narrow corridor. Everyone was within half a metre of each other. If someone was sick there, then we all have it now," he told AD.nl.

"I hope it will be over soon. The [infected] will feel terrible, because 500 people are trapped in a sandbox where they are not allowed to leave."

Van Emden also described the situation inside the hotel, with riders being forced to stay in their rooms and being sent away from the outside terrace.

"Our freedom of movement is limited. We don't have to stay in our rooms, but I understood there are armed people at the door. Dylan [Groenwegen] and Timo [Roosen] were sent off the roof terrace this morning. They wanted to sunbathe but were sent away."

I wonder what being more than halfway through a stage race does to your immune system

I was alarmed when I read the third sentence, before I read the fourth.

There's serious enough thought being given to cancelling the Giro that Wout Van Aert shifted his spring program from a focus on prepping for that race to more early classics.  His team entered him into tomorrow's Omloop Het  Niewsblad, the first big Belgian classic, earlier this week.  He's not raced on the road since he almost lost his leg in the TdF last year, but he did the cyclocross worlds.

Quote
Van Aert, who placed fourth at the Cyclo-cross World Championships earlier this month, was due to make his road racing season debut with a trio of Italian one-day races: Strade Bianche on March 7, GP Industria & Artigianato on March 8, and Milan San-Remo on March 21.

However, all three races are currently at risk due to the spread of coronavirus, with Italy seeing an alarming number of cases over the past week. More than 300 people there have tested positive for the novel virus, and 11 have died as a result.

The worst affected area is the Lombardy region in the north of the country, with a number of towns currently on lockdown. That puts Milan-San Remo at particular risk, given it starts in Milan and works its way down through Lombardy before tracking along the Ligurian coast.

So the director of the tdf tests positive, but he is outside the bubble dealing with officials and sponsors. 4 teams had a staffer inside the bubble test positive. No riders, but the rule is if a second team member tests positive, the team is sent home. The teams of the 2d 3d and 4th place cyclists have had one positive each.

Paris-Roubaix cancelled due to ridiculous infection rates along the route.  There was talk about a no spectator rule, but hard to see that enforced.  Also, Simon Yates is out of the Giro due to an infection.
