So Thomas falls in the Tour of Switzerland and Bernal grabs the lead before the time trial.

Also, Doumolin to miss the Tour. I wonder if Chad Haga will ride so he can do the tt?

Looks like Thomas is going to be in the TdF after all.  Methinks someone from Sky/Ineos is gonna win.

Astana is doing well this summer.  I don't think he's capable but it'd be great to see Fuglsang get away on a raid and keep a lead to win.

I don't think Movistar works together well.  The AG2R leader has been off this season.  Realistically, I don't see a good challenge to Ineos.

Phil is in his best form in years. He and Bob were talking about the volcanic formation, the Massif Central, that they are riding through today, and he mentions " there are over 60 extinct volcanoes in the Massif Central, at least we hope they remain extinct"

Most interesting Tour in in years.  6 cyclists within 2:14 of the lead with 3 Alpine stages left plus 2 sprinter / transition stages before that.  2-3-4 split by 15 seconds.

This has been nuts.  Rooting for a French guy to win.

go dutch or go home!  But I think Pinot now will pull it out.  He's only 15 seconds behind Thomas.  I don't think Alaphillipe will be able to match his next attack.  What would make it really interesting is if Fuglsang / Landa / Valverde is feeling good and they give him some room to attack.  Alaphilippe can let them go and force Ineos and Jumbo to chase.

At the bottom, there's a video of Sagan signing an autograph as he is riding up the Tourmalet.

That was a great TdF.  Alaphilippe coming out of the bleu, Movistar being Movistar, the arrival of the next stud sprinter, and first and foremost, not really knowing the outcome until the last day.  Gold.

I love giving Alaphilippe the combativity prize. He really was aggressive the first 10 days and fought like heck in the mountains. I think Vandevelde was right when he said Alaphilippe's TT changed the whole Tour b/c if Thomas had come out in yellow after the TT, then Bernal would have rode as a top domestique and not attacked to break the yellow jersey. Thomas wins the tour if he wins the TT

Absolutely.  And if there's one thing the French love more than a winner, it's a heroic loser on a suicide ride.

Looking forward to the Vuelta.

Gonna guess next year's Tour route has 10 crosswind stages, a bunch of lumpy stages, 50 km of TTs, and 4 mountain stages, all with valley finishes and absurd descents

A rather nice bike line has developed beneath Whitehurst in Georgetown.  Two directional lanes dedicated to bikes, separate from peds (sidewalk) and cars (road with parallel parking in between).  Years ago I used to ride this street daily during DC/Rockville bike commute after dark, and it was always terrifying (I say that as one who was a bike messenger in a former life).  I very rarely ride on bike lanes these days, so this was quite a shock.  Well done DC DoT or whomever was behind this.  Felt like Amsterdam  :pimp:

That'll hurt all the little pip-squeak climbers but good.

different topic, apparently Wout Van Aert needed a second surgery to correct the botched patch job they did in Pau after his crash in the individual time trial. (cycling news site).  Cyclocross converts to road always impress me.

I’ve been watching Tour of Flanders videos and as far as I can tell the course is designed to make grown men cry.

Oh yes.  Short steep hills and cobbles, throw in some cold rain and mud for good measure.
