I thought you were wondering what whypipo meant.

Yeah, the guy (I can't even remember who it was) said in effect "you white people, stop talking about reading books".

I get it now. whypipo is phoenetic for white people. As in y - pee - po.  I was seeing y - pip - o

I figured it out immediately because MDS likes to rag on himself (a really white white guy).

re: "I'm worried he will sign the QO."

That would be great for Nats. I think him averaging out to his 2017 self (5 WAR) and that is a really valuable player.

It's a foregone conclusion that Harper will get and reject the QO.  There is no other realistic scenario.

Just a reminder: because the Nats are over the cap, if he rejects a QO, we get a supplemental 4th rounder as compensation for Harper.   We really need to trade him.

Or just trade those bullpen guys and get under the cap, and if Harper rejects the QO it’s a 2nd/3rd rounder instead. (The pick goes after the second round and before the third.)

Most likely you would get guys in a trade that were fourth round picks or lower. If you end up with three picks between the fourth and fifth rounds that increases your odds of hitting on a pick.

Do you know just how much we need to shed, Patti?  I mean, do 2 of the FA pen pieces do it?  Rizzo and the boys did some miscalculations themselves, so I sure don't know what it is.

The cap this year is $197 million and we are at $189 million, but that’s before all the stuff like the per diems and whatever else counts as a player benefit towards the cap, and that’s where I get confused, but it’s enoigh extra stuff to push us over. The three FA bullpen guys — Herrera, Madson and Kelley —combine for around $20 million, so you figure we could theoretically get someone to eat just under half of that (assuming all three get moved— independently or as a set). We won’t get any decent prospects if that’s how it plays out though, but we should be able to get salary relief on each of them. That might not be enough to get under, but if you throw Gio on the pile, that might do the trick.

The Nats have already paid out 2/3rds of the salaries, so that $20 million would only net maybe $6 or $7 million in reduced payroll.

Right now, I believe it's more important to focus on retooling for 2019 and beyond, rather than be too concerned about salary caps for the current year.

BTW -- someone on the MLB Network suggested that Harper might be a good addition for the Yankees now that Judge is out with a broken wrist.   Great opportunity?

You don’t sell Bryce Harper or your season when you are less then 5 games out of the playoffs with 2+ months to go.

That half game is the reason you don’t sell?

You do if it makes you better going forward.  A one game Wild Card loss isn't exactly something to strive for.  This group is not coming back anyway...which isn't a bad thing...

On the chance that he may get hot? Because up to this point he is the main reason this team is where it is.

Off topic, isn't this guy head of the Federal Reserve or something in the Trump regime? Or is that someone else?

But at this point, getting to the WC game is something to strive for. Because, who knows? They might win it.

Philly Boy. Loves his Phillies and Eagles. He got into hot water for many of the statements he made during the last market meltdown. I believe for conflicts of interest. Somehow he survived. Take any of these guys on tv with a big grain of salt when making financial decisions.
