I hope I didn't give the impression that I'm in that category because I'm about as far removed from that attitude as anyone.
Celebrating it as enthusiastically as a World Series win (and really, she did essentially say that) is just something I can't relate to.
I think this is where the disconnect is for you and dcpatti. I believe she feels it is equally valid to celebrate the Derby - but she does not feel it gets the same level of celebration as the World Series. If people were climbing lightpoles because Harper won the Derby, that'd be over the top and ridiculous.
But they celebrated by cheering and dancing for an hour and then just smiled a whole lot the next day. That seems like an appropriate level of celebration for the best possible outcome to a fan service spectacle. I don't think anyone is saying that the Derby was significant or worth bragging rights, a parade, etc. It was just a fun one off.
Essentially, you don't care for the Derby, so it didn't get you excited, but the level of celebration was pretty much the same as you get with a come from behind walk off win or a complete game shut out. Fun for the night, makes you feel good the next day, then it's back to the grind.
