Per Zuck, Eaton will bat lead-off in 2018.  I'm assuming we'll see something like this:

1. Eaton
2. Rendon
3. Harper
4. Zimmerman
5. Murphy
6. Taylor
7. Turner
8. Wieters

Or, maybe flip Turner/Wieters to set up a better chance of a bunt advancing the runner if Turner gets on, and to keep the L/R/L/R pattern

Eaton
Turner
Harper
Rendon
Murphy
Zimm
Taylor
Weiters

That's the way I see it too...

I can't see Turner hitting at the bottom of the lineup. A 1-2 punch of Eaton and Turner will be a nightmare for pitchers.
actually, Maddon has hit pitchers 8th, so it would not surprise me at all to see Eaton and Turner hitting 9th and 1st on occasions.  Certainly if Taylor gets off to a slowish start, I could see him dropped to 9

Don't need him to bat at all in AL parks...

Do you think the Martinez will bat the pitcher 8th ever? Maddon does that quite a bit, and it might make sense with how our catchers hit.

Nats acquire utility IF Matt Reynolds, recently DFAd, from the Mets for cash.  Looks like org. depth and a possible backup if Murphy isn't ready.

Who the hell is Matt Reynolds?

*reads whole article with long explanation*

...still, who the hell is Matt Reynolds??

Ah well. He'll be in AAA for at least 120 games, if we're any good.

Stole 20 bases one year in the minors. He's hit in the minors about like Difo has hit in the majors. Some competition in ST?

Eaton and Turner will be atop the lineup.  Unless Turner really, really struggles, he's the 2-hole guy.

1. Eaton
2. Turner
3. Harper
4. Rendon
5. Murphy
6. Zimmerman
7. Wieters
8. Taylor

So you have a young, cost controlled, good hitting, great defensive catcher, and you don't think that should cost a premium? There's literally one elite catcher in baseball

He's even more valuable when you account for his home/away splits. You're not getting that without giving up top tier talent

Posey and Sanchez are both elite.  Realmuto and Perez are close as is Contreras.

Posey is the only elite one. Sanchez has done it for one year.

Realmuto has the second highest WAR amongst catchers the last three years. Realmuto is bordering on elite territory and getting out of that god awful park would probably put him over the edge.

Rendon
Murphy

Taylor

Come on now, we know that Rendon isn't allowed to hit higher than 5th until September.

TBF in 2016 Sanchez was also a stud the moment he got called up permanently and rode it for 2 months.

But what about Reid Brignac?  Can't have anyone potentially stealing ABs from Reid Brignac.

Sure, I could deal with Taylor in the 9. Eaton/Turner at 1-2, maximizes their plate appearances. I can't see the fancy numbers suggesting limiting them for either of those two.

He might become elite, but to me, being elite means repeatability over the course of several seasons.

At one point Lucroy was elite, but two of the last three seasons he's struggled. But Posey is the only one right now who has proven to be elite.

He can play short when Turner gets hurt again. Or Rendon.

No off season discussion would be complete without Metro planning for the new season:

Ah, good.  Combined among Murphy, Turner, and Rendon's injuries, I'm sure Martinez can find him 450 ABs.

Be curious next week when we get the e.t.a of when Murphy is supposed to be back. Unless something has been said already?
