Cole gave up 31 bombs last year.  An aberration? Interesting to see what they do with McCutcheon and Harrison now.

Rosenthal now says that the Cole deal is *not* a done deal.

Scherzer gave up 31 in 2016.   And was Cy Young.

True enough. Cole pitched 25 fewer innings and had a 4.26 ERA compared with Max's 2.96 but that is a frustrating number of HRs to give up. Always liked Cole. Maybe the Nats are the "other" team still lurking in pursuit.

Zuckerman did a Q&A today.  Nothing earth shattering.  He doesn't think we'll bring back Albers and he thinks Rizzo will trade for a #3 starter rather than sign a FA.  He didn't think that we'd blow up the system to acquire Realmuto and Yelich, and didn't think making that kind of deal was a good idea.

EJax back on what sounds like a minor league deal or maybe just a spring training deal, $1.5m if he makes the major league roster.  https://twitter.com/jorgecastillo/status/951566284789026816

More like Tanner Roark avoided arbitration with the Nationals...

I think this was all set up last year when he settled for $2MM less than the estimates.

He really needs to have a bounce back year in 2018...

So if he wins, I guess that means he'll be traded.   But what deadline?  I thought an agreement could be reached anytime prior to arbitration.   If not, why not?

And now Zuckerman tweeting that there is indeed a deal in place with Rendon. So all three of our guys are set.  No details yet on Rendon's deal but so many teams are announcing and filing right now, that's not surprising.

Have to sign by 1pm today or arbitration hearing gets scheduled. But you’re right. Some teams still do negotiate up to the hearing. But some teams treat it as a hard deadline and don’t negotiate past it.

That's a lot of money for a guy that wasn't even an All Star last year...  :couch:

So the Buccos  traded Cole. Frankly, I think the Nats could have matched/beat that offer pretty easily

Hasn't Cole struggled a lot lately? I could be wrong but I thought that was the case.

I wonder if the Astros would trade Brad Peacock after trading for Gerritt Cole? He was lights out last year and will be moved to the pen. He would look quite nice as our #4

He is in a dirt cheap contract and under control until 2021.

Doubtful. Injuries happen and a team going all in like Houston probably won't trade their next guy up in the rotation.
