Anyone want JZ back?

3 year and 74 mil left. If we can get Detroit to eat 14 mil then we owe him 20 mil a year I think that's Do-able.

We won't be finding a legit starter for under 20 mil in free agency.

Hell trade them Harper for Zimmerman and James McCann and call it a day.

They're selling him at his absolute lowest value. Given that the Tigers are in full on rebuild mode, I imagine they may hold on to him until the deadline in the hopes he fixes himself. But if they want to dump him, I'd give up a fringish prospect if they ate enough salary to keep us out of the tax this season.

JZ hasn’t shown he’s a legit starter anymore. If the Tigers are willing to eat $50 million of his remaining contract then let’s talk.

Why not just see how Frazier plays this season and sign Harper next year if he busts? No reason for the YAnkees to sacrifice that much for one year of Harper

I'm just throwing out hypotheticals but you can get Harper a year early, a year in which you're already built to be a World Series contender. Trade the prospect for the sure thing a year early. Anyways, just a hypothetical.

He also has a no trade clause that disappears after next season, so they have an odd situation of considering trade leverage against their own player when thinking about timing.

I'm fairly confident he would be willing to waive it, knowing that the Tigers are completely rebuilding at this point.

Sure, if they trade him to the Brewers.  Remember, he wants to be close to home.  That seemed to be the prime consideration when he left us.

The Tigers are basically a Superfund site for the foreseeable future. I would do anything I could to get out of there.

Money was his prime consideration and the Tiger bit as many remind us here

Sure, but that doesn't mean he can't use it as a hammer to force a trade to someplace he wants to go, which might or might not be here.

Robles to start the season in AAA.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/nationals-journal/wp/2017/11/27/nationals-plan-on-victor-robles-starting-2018-in-class-aaa/

I guess unless he tears it up in ST?

Still would keep him in AAA even if he tears it up in ST. he needs ABs. Taylor deserves the shot he is going to get now after last year..

Does Robles still have a clock on his playing time? Like if we keep in in Triple A for two months, do we get an extra year of control?

he has 25 days on the MLB roster.  That means we get 6 additional season of control if he's on the MLB roster less than (172-25 =) 147 days.  More or less, keep him down through the first week of May will get the Nats an extra year (someone else can do the precise math).

Between Difo, Goodwin, and MAT, that should be possible

He went to the highest bidder, let's be clear.

I bought that line also but for the money he is making he can charter a private jet for him to go fishing or fly his family and friends to games. I often postulated that he was also "pissed" that he wasn't the OD starter for several seasons as he really pitched better the prior seasons than Stras.

I could see JZ returning here and pitching closer to his previous form. There is something to be said about comfort and environment. I wouldn't give up much to get him though with that salary, nor should we need to.

I wonder what kinda of trade package we could put together to get Odorizzi and Colome form the Rays? Maybe something built around Soto and Seth Romero?
