We’ve been to 3 minor league parks so far on our unplanned road trip (flood damage from a backed up drain pipe was extensive and we’ve had to move out for the month while it’s restored). The Altoona Curve ballpark was nice, but nothing really special other than the old wooden roller coaster just beyond right center. Apparently there used to be an amusement park there, long since closed, and the roller coaster is a leftover from that. It was a fireworks night, so that was nice.
I really liked the Akron Rubber Ducks ballpark. Good sightlines, nice concessions, and a very engaged and fun crowd.
Also liked the Buffalo Bisons ballpark. Being a Triple A park, it was quite a bit larger than most minor league parks I’ve visited, holding over 7,000. It’s where the Blue Jays played during Covid. It was $10 ticket night when we visited last night - every ticket in the park was only $10. We got two aisle seats behind home, just 5 rows back. Can’t beat that. The Bisons are the Jays AAA team, so both anthems were played. The interesting thing was that I had on Nats gear, and 4 different people called out, “Go Nats!!” to me. That hasn’t happened anywhere else. One thought I had - isn’t the name Buffalo Bisons somewhat redundant?
Next week, we’ll hit the Erie Seawolves ballpark.
