Why am I thinkin' Joe Nuxhall?     Wasn't he the Reds' pitchin' coach at one time?

Bases loaded, chance to tie the game...
Ryan Zimmerman facing a rookie in his debut...

Ryan grounds into a double play to end the inning.

We're going to get smoked in the playoffs. Especially at home. Again.

The way we've been throwing games recently, I can see us not even making it.

Nats 2nd year managers don't make the playoffs.

Every time I hear the name, which isn't often now days, I think that Nuxhall pitched for the Reds when he was about 15. Maybe in 1945?

I remember the 15 part.    1945 was a little early for me.    :poke:

Found his read on Wiki:

...pitching 2/3 of an inning for the Reds on June 10, 1944 at the age of 15 years, 316 days."

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joe_Nuxhall

Damn, D-Day was on a Tuesday and he pitched on the following Saturday.

Had to look him up. Nuxhall pitched 2/3 of an inning in 1944 at age 15. Then retired. Pitched again in MLB, for the Reds, beginning in 1952. Finally retired in 1966. He was a broadcaster for the Reds from when he retired until he died in 2007, although he was a part-time broadcaster the last three or four years. Probably not a pitching coach.

welch has me on ignore.     :)

You're probably right about the pitching coach.    Trivia:    Who were the Reds' pitching coaches?    Let me check google:

Jim Kaat (welch remembers him);   Gullett  ...   a long time;  Bryan Price;   Jeff Pico;    Mack Jenkins

Ha! Was reading Nuxhall stats and then wiki...the game, though, is just pain. All around pain.
