You know, I have a Chromebook at home and remember something like this happening. I'll have to check when I get home. I think I still have to hit Return twice for a line break...
I'm using Chrome both home and work. I can't tell you much about add ons other than I would not have installed any such thing myself, and what work does vs home with respect to ad blocks or anti-viral stuff would be two different approaches and I get this problem with both environments.
Can someone else test chrome perhaps?
