...and I have no idea what to think of today's lineup :?   Why is Zimmerman being benched in favor of a lefty against a LHP?

My first thought was, "Who's missin' to set up the gala?"         :couch:     Glad I'll catch some of this game.    Niece is visitin' around 2 and we'll head to the pool with her son.

Night game followed by a 12:05 pm game. If Gio implodes, Zim can be double-switched into the game.  At least dusty moved the replacement LF out of batting 2nd.

On this day in 1943, brothers Laslo and Georg Biro of Argentina, filed a patent for ballpoint pen. Other inventors were working on making one, but the Biro brothers were the first to succeed. The ball point pen was originally called a "Birome". Ballpoint pens hit the U.S. market in 1945 at Gimbel's department store, selling for $12.50 each!! It became an instant success and the rest is history. The Biro brothers sold their patent to Bic.

The Buckeye Cookbook, published in 1876 and Housekeeping in Old Virginia, published in 1877 both contain iced tea recipes.  It is believed, however, that iced tea started to appear in the United States in the 1860′s and became widespread in the 1870s where it was found offered on hotel menus and was on sale at railroad stations.

In 1904, English tea plantation owner Richard Blechynden set up a booth to sell hot tea at the St. Louis World Fair. It was a sizzler of a day, and fair visitors didn't want anything hot. Rather, they needed something to quench their thirst... something cold. He dumped some of his hot tea into ice and served it cold. The popularity of refreshing iced tea drink grew rapidly after this.

I was just wondering because I didn't get one. I was so pissed off that I fumed for the first two innings. I even had an extra ticket and had hoped to get 2 so I could give them to my nephews (I had already promised that I would give the bobbleheads to them) but by the time I got there the national anthem was already playing. :bang: It took me 45 minutes (no exaggeration) to get from 19th st to 7th st. :hang: How early did they run out?

They also sold US the patent to Eversharp Pens. However, a guy from LA pirated the design and filled the US market with the Reynolds Rocket. Gimbels would have been selling Eversharp 5th Avenue ballpoints and Reynolds Rockets. Unfortunately, the Biro design had a flaw: it used a smooth spheroid ball, which often did not scrape ink-paste from the supply. Early ballpoints skipped and blobbed. Eversharp sued Reynolds and won, but by then Reynolds was bankrupt. Eversharp lost money on pens returned for repair, so much that they sold out to Parker in the mid-50s.

Parker engineering worked on a better ballpoint, eventually figuring that a tungsten ball would have enough micro-craps to dig ink from the refill's ink-past. That became the Parker T-ball Jotter. Parker still makes the Jotter.

They ran out around 6:40 I think. So I think you just missed it. The third base gate was the last place to have them. They were getting inundated with folks from other gates. Had to have cops come to enforce. 😮

Bases loaded, 0 outs and nobody from Texas catches a sure-out foul fly ball.

WOW!

Also, it didn't help that my freaking brother was 20 minutes late! That also made a difference.

And it was his idea to go to that game because he and his son wanted the bobbleheads.

Turner has been a bit of a disaster this season.
