Have seen him at Potomac. Can't say I was overly impressed but he is obviously doing well. And a cool name. That should count for something.

i'm guessing his ceiling is a backup catcher, he's progressing nicely though.

I think he needs a theme song, to the tune of Daydream Believer.  It could be the new WIL-SON!  His name's Raudy Read, a catcher on our team...

Maybe songs about catchers just might not be too exciting.

they ought to play bagpipes when he goes to bat and he ought to be allowed to wear a kilt.

A kilt and catcher's gear forms a spectacularly unfortunate plethora of chances for unpleasantness, bagpipes or no.

So, does his 80 games track along the major league schedule or syracuse?  It looks like he's not on the MLB roster, but he was on at the time of the suspension.  If it is the majors, then we have 13 games to go.  After that, someone has to be bumped from the 40 man - either he stays off or someone else is bumped.

This guy seriously screwed himself. He’d be in the majors now if not for the suspension. And even if he comes back and sets the world on fire, he has to sit for the playoffs.

Would he have been any good without the PEDs?

26 games at Harrisburg: .322 / .386 / .489

Looks like he got sent from Syracuse down to Harrisburg when Wieters came back.  he was hitting .260 at AAA.

Fangraphs on Read being called up:

Quote
Read’s kept hitting for power even after his early-2018 PED suspension. Per a source, his average exit velocities in the minors (about 89 mph) are way up above those of Washington’s primary catchers (Yan Gomes is at 87, Kurt Suzuki at 85), but Read is often too aggressive at the plate for it all to play, and he’s not nearly as good a defender as the other two. He should play late in games when Washington is behind to give the vets a blow, and also because he has a better chance of running into one and getting you back in the game.

Obviously this was written before last night.

And by someone who didn't notice that Suzuki already had 15 homers in under 300 PAs going into last night.

Read is a warm body whose primary function is as insurance, to allow Suzuki to pinch hit in games Gomes starts.

.318   / .333 / .394 in 7 games at Rochester with 2 home runs, he's getting some time at 1B with Barerra the primary catcher now.
