Luis Garcia - 76ABs .276 / .345 / .382 - 0 HRs, 2 SBsFinal AFL line for 2019.
He’s got no power. That’s why.
Trying no to get too excited about him yet, but he’s mashing so far:https://www.masnsports.com/nationals-pastime/2020/03/garcias-growth-hasnt-gone-unnoticed-in-nats-camp.html
I'm beginning to think that, if he hits at AA or AAA, he may be a midseason call-up for 2B (castro to 3d) if Kieboom hasn't nailed down the job.
I think you could move Garcia to short or even third. He has the arm. Hes already one of, if not the, best infielders on the roster. And he will grow into some more power.
I think you'd need a few injuries to make that happen. I think Rizzo is perfectly happy with AsCabby at third until the deadline. However, if Garcia hits well in AA or AAA ball, his trade value shoots up and you may not need to deal him AND Kieboom to get Bryant.
normal rule is to lock this when he gets called up. TBH, I don't think this kid plays in the minors again.
Interesting to note that Garcia is exclusively playing SS so far this season. I would have thought he'd be at 2nd with the plan being to bring him up this year if he shows he's ready.
He grades out better, defensively at shortstop, than Turner ever did. Rizzo is definitely setting the table to start the rebuild with a trade of Turner, while also making Garcia's value as high as possible
makes sense. If they go for it this year rather than cash out, Garcia can be put in a package, especially if he looks ok hitting and one of the other MIs look like they can handle the position in 2022 or 2023.
