Yes. Not a SS in the majors, maybe, but a solid 2B. Let him have the full season in AAA, since the Nats have plenty of utility guys for 2B and 3B, and even an extra OF.

The firesale is on. Get something for Harrison. DFA Mercer, bring up Garcia to play 2B every day and Noll to be the utility guy.

Why do you think he can’t play SS in the majors. I thought previously folks said he would be the SS and Trea moved to 2B. Of course now Trea will probably be gone.

This is a little dated but his fielding and arm were rated higher than his bat.

I always thought it was going to be Garcia to SS and Turner to 2B or even CF, but with the way he is playing SS this year, Garcia can wait his turn while playing 2B as long as Trea is here, which is hopefully forever and ever.

He can absolutely play SS and he should spend every possible inning in the minors doing so

Last I looked, Arteaga was at SS and Garcia at 2B.

Cant fix the stupidity of the organization. Garcia needs every rep at SS to be ready when we trade Turner

He has played most of his games at SS. I wonder if the injury moved him to second

The Nats are going to move Harrison not Turner.

Small sample size, but he crushed it last season in Rochester as well. Maybe they're giving him an extended run at short which is why they're keeping him down.

But I'm glad to see him hitting it hard. If you're going to be sent down to AAA, at least prove you deserve to be in the majors instead.

He needs to stay there until his number of at bats in Triple A at least matches his number in the big leagues. There is literally no reason for him to be accumulating major league time

Alcides Escobar looking like he belongs back in the Japanese CL is one reason to get Luis Garcia back up here.

But if Escobar can turn it around even a little bit, he gets dealt at the deadline and brings back something. That is how a retool goes. Take flyers on veterans and try to flip them at the deadline.

I understand that is the goal with a lot of our vet guys right now, but 35 year old Alcides Escobar is not getting back even a bag of baseballs unless he somehow becomes a .300 hitter out of nowhere.

Disagree. If Alcides Escobar slashed something like .278/.320/.374, a 50-point OPS dropoff from last year, and was an above average SS with positional versatility, at the deadline a contender would have happily parted ways with a fringe AA prospect.

Usually we never hear about that prospect again, once every blue moon that prospect is Tanner Roark. At worse it would be a piece who could be flipped down the line in a "Buy" deadline.

But right now, sooner than later they have to bench/cut him and let Fox play or pull up Garcia. This isn't the NBA. Nothing to be gained from losing games

Its not. Garcia playing does nothing for this season.

This franchise has promoted guys way too early and the results have been pretty bad. Giolito wasnt ready. Kieboom wasnt ready. Robles wasnt ready. The results have been freaking catastrophic to this team's development. Leave him in Triple A for at least half a season. He absolutely needs it.

I'm open to this viewpoint. Not every guy is Harper or Soto.

I'd like to see Fox get a week of burn before they even consider Garcia. Maybe even Adrianza can play some short.

i think they wanted to get Garcia some regular time at SS before calling him up. He had played a lot at 2nd last year.  If he keeps this up, he'll be here soon.

Roll with Escobar/Fox/Adrianza this year. If they find themselves in contention at the deadline, make a trade. Let Garcia take all the time he needs. No need to rush/force it.

I think this is an outdated take. Look around the league and see all of the top prospects being thrown into the fire early on. Especially when you are in the position the Nationals are in where the results on the field don't really matter. Garcia has two seasons of MLB ABs already and has not appeared completely overwhelmed, I see no reason to leave him down there much longer.

I am not saying call him up today and start him at SS, but if Escobar is still hitting in the .100s through April, just bring him up. Players can improve in the Majors, not just in the Minors.
